Hi Guys,

I'm shooting in RAW on a Canon 450D. The overwhelming majority of shots transfer over onto my computer using the Elements 5 import process with absolutely no problem, but every once in a while (maybe 2-3 shots per thousand) it decides that the RAW file is not recognisable, and insists on importing it as a jpeg instead.

Anyone got any ideas on why this might be? confused It's not a problem, so much as something I'm just curious about.

shoot me in the head for suggesting this but the free canon tools shipped with the camera are simply superb never had an issue in all the years I have used it

Does that not add extra steps to get the image into Elements?

which bit of Elements are you talking about? The catalogue or whatever it's called?? Like Stigmund, just use the Canon tools (eg Zoombrowser or CameraWindow) and import, delete the cr*p (;)) then you can simply right-click and select edit in Elements from there. I find zoombrowser better than Elements for the viewing and sorting(when I'm not using Picassa!)

it does indeed but its 100% success, mind, I dont even use anything other than Digital Photo professional which also ships freely! I have attempted to use adobe bridge and their RAW processing in the past but found it lacking and flakey compared to the canon software.

Free in this instance does not mean substandard.

Take the other night, I had all the shots processed and out in the time it took the other guy to do 3 with lightroom (which kept fubar'ing on him)
