or do you ned to raise one end first?

I have lifted it just over and inch but cannot lift more without lifting the chassis

I cannot see any reason for not lifting - but still need to check arount the rear of the car

Full story is at my website www.gbsportscar.com including pics. The back end has to come up first to clear the suspension arms then the front about 3 inches then roll chassis forward to clear undercut then front up to full height

V8S Bolt positions - you won't have the ones on the centre console - you may have one each side of the fuel tank cradle.

Check there are no stones stuck between the outriggers and the body.

The rear has to come up very high (above the suspension holding the top of the rear shocks) before sliding the entire body back then lifting the front.

looking at the V8 sketch I have taken all the bolts out - as you say - there are no bolts in the centre console area and two at the rear behind the petrol tank.
I now know I have to lift the rear first and higher than the front

The one thing I found that is missing from above diagram is the bolt that secures the boot strut caught on the petrol tank as you lifted so it also needed to be removed

It's a case of 'they don't all do that sir'.
I drew the diagram when I took the body off my V8S, autumn 2007. These were the only bolts, specifically, holding the body to chassis. There may have been others, eg. the one securing fuel pump through the bodywork etc. I certainly didn't have to remove the strut from the boot lid on mine.

BTW best tip I can give, if you have a few pairs of hands available, is to get hold of a 6ft+ length of 4x2". I had removed fuel tank to allow space for this, but you could probably lift body enough to slide in above tank. Slide this under the rear wheel-arch and use that to lift the rear of the car. You'll find that your arms aren't long enough to lift the body clear of the rear suspension mounts.

This is a link to a movie taken when we put the body back on. The movie demonstrates the difficulty of lifting/holding the body at the neccessary height. You can't see the length of wood but you can see the guys at the back using it/talking about it. Piece of wood ends up resting on tyres. Video takes a minute or two to download.

Thanks lads - body now lifted a foot or so - it was the short piece of petrol tank rubber in the boot that was holding it.

Remember what was the problem was when lifting, as when you come to drop it back down again will have the same problem in reverse.
I haven't done a lift myself but I do know about the problems of fitting the fuel tank rubber tube when everything else is in place.
My advice would be to fit the tube as you are lowering.

Cheers
