Just rolled the S2 out of garage, not happy with the bonnet,I need to adjust its position. Steve Heaths bible indicates this best done with bonnet closed. Some threads idicate bonnet open!!. Any advice offered would be appreciated.

Do it outside so that you have plenty of room to stand back to view and check the alignment and shutlines. A tip I found on here a while back is to take the bonnet pins out, its much easier then to do all the adjustments.

When you come to re-fit the pins, tie the release handle fully open and put masking tape over the latches. Just lower the bonnet gently so that the pins leave a witness mark in the tape and adjust as necessary until they are properly centred. You'll probably need to re-tape a few times to get it done and its worth having a helper when lowering the bonnet to eliminate twist/flex as far as possible.

I had a go last night and I can say that I found it easier by having the bonnet closed. All I did was put the car on axle stands, remove the front wheels and inner wheel arch liners in order to gain access to the bolts and brackets. One thing that I do recomend though, when I removed my bonnet brackets last December they were in a sorry state indeed all rusty and very badly corroded, so I took them to a local fabrication shop and had them copied in stainless steel for £15 and then got 4 matching stainless bolts and locknuts just to finish things off.

Hi Norman, it was the two brackets that clamp to the bonnet each side, if I get time tonight I will take some pictures and post them.

Here is those pictures I promised.....

Sorry they are only average pictures but I think you can get the idea, the old brackets were absolutley shot, very rusty and very thin where the metal had been attacked by rust over the last 18 years, now they should last forever!!
cheers.....Tony..

Sorry Norman, the chap who made them runs a business called Kaliber Engineering here in Derby, he is selling up and retiring as his partner is ill and he doesn't want to run it on his own. It is a great shame as he also made my battery tray in stainless steel and repaired the downpipe parts of my exhaust also in stainless, he basically did it as one last favour, Sorry.....
Cheers.....Tony..
