Does anyone sell either a screw-in or rectangular ND filter, for long exposures during daylight? I'm talking 5 minute exposures in bright sunlight stuff, like 10ND strength.

Screw-in would be fine, but I also have the Lee Filter holder that takes polyester/glass filters.

There should be lots of screw-in ND filters and I imagine Lee make ND filters for their holders as well. I don't know if you can get a filter that's strong enough to allow exposures of 5 minutes in bright sunlight though. Maybe you'll have to stack multiple filters.

If you've got a sample photo might be worth a trial of Color Efex Pro first. I dont know anything about front of camera filters sorry

Hoya seem to do an ND8 if you'd have a vignetting problem from fitting more than one lighter ND to double up the effect.

Hoya do an ND-400 (approx 9 stop reduction) filter. You'd probably need 2 of those to get you a 5 minute exposure on a sunny day though.

Thanks, there are a few circular filters in there equivalent to 10 stops, I might buy one of those.

Its basically for mucking around with water shots in sunlight, different effects etc. You could do interesting things with long exposures on race tracks, motorways etc.

B+W do an ND-110 which is a 10 stop filter. Don't expect to get one quickly thought they always seem to be special order. Depends what you mean by daylight too

This was a 2 minute exposure at f18 (iirc) about 10am on a cold Novembers morning

It was faitly bright, so to get 5 minutes you going to have to stack another filter probably.

This was longer but directly into the sun at sunrise

You could always geta circular polarizer and a linear polarizer and stack them together should give the same effect - not sure how many stops though

Cheers Rhubarb, that is exactly the effect I was after. I've just ordered one from Warehouse Direct, £30ish all in.

I'd be interested to see if it can get rid of the circular halo I get around highlights on some long exposures, caused by the rather cheap lens I'm currently using. Usually happens when the iris is wide open. I intend to buy a nicer lens sometime, perhaps this year or the next.
