Hi Gents,
I'm off on a road trip next week - hopefully in the S (weather permitting). Bearing in mind I'm not really the sort of person who can do a clutch change by the side of the road while simultaneously adjusting the spark plug gaps with my toes, what should I take?
To be honest it's currently looking like a wheel changing kit, and an AA card for anything more involved, but is there anything else I might realistically need?

I would say it depends how much you want to spend.
The clutch hydraulics make me nervous - but you're looking at the thick end of £100 for a master & slave cylinder.
Not necessarily to fix it yourself but if you found a foreign garage and had the parts I think they would be inclined to have a go.
Its a tough one - and I reckon whatever you pack it will be rattling around in your boot for years and it will be the bit you didn't take that will fail!
The alternative might be to take contact details for lot of parts suppliers - and in the event of a failure get something couriered out if you can afford the time. Alternatively just let you breakdown cover take the strain but where's the fun in that?!

The only things I used when I went to Le Mans was a spanner to get the inner wings off and a crimper to put a new connector on the wiring round the bonnet hinges when an indicator failed. So - a cable crimper is a good idea plus some bullet connectors, fuses and spade ends, etc.
- If you are going to France you will also need a high viz coat/waistcoat inside the car as it is illegal to get out of the car when broken down without one - ie you are apparently illegal if you get out of the car to open the boot to get the coat out - bizarre but there we are!
Chris,
Where are you off to.....?
If this is a Euro trip it is also a legal requirement to carry a warning triangle, first aid kit, full insurance doc's etc etc. RAC & AA websites will have all the details
Have a good trip and don't forget to post a full report when you get back!
Enjoy,

2nd the tie wrap idea. Took a trip in a Robin Hood down to Le Mans one year and the throttle cable linkage broke fixed with a tie wrap.
Also 2nd beer which is the only thing to stop you worrying on how the hell you're going to get back.
Happy travels and post the report when you get back.

Having seen some of the recent threads in the Roads forum I'd hardly say "just Wales". Great roads and none of the euro exchange rate expense of crossing the channel
Make sure you share some pic's and details of your routes etc.Enjoy
