Whats considered normal engine running temp? I have a 4.3 chimp which I bought last week. It seems to run at 90 under general driving, creeping up in traffic. As the weather is so cold at the moment, is this okay? The fans dont appear to be coming on though. I have noticed that it has had a kenlowe fan adjuster thing fitted, does anyone know anything about these? maybe it needs turning down some?

Hi Paul, There have been lots of posts about this before. from what I remember the main issues were whether the gauge is correct, my Griff 500 constantly appears to be running at about 100. I would say get the cooling system checked for air blocks .(Its certainly what I was told)

mine was doing exactly that until i had it serviced at tower view. they changed the otter switched and the temperature never gets any where near 90 at this time of year. this was prompted my a trip to paris last year during the hot weather. the gauge got to around 120. i'm also considering having a smaller number plate made up, or getting a stick-on type made for the bonnet to increase air flow.

I`ve got a feeling that the otter switch might be in need of replacement. Has anyone else fitted the adjustable kenlowe jobbies? or seen any? cheers Paul.

I've got 4.0 chimaera which I've only had for a month or so, but I notice it's general running temp is about 70 which seems low?? it went over 100 once stuck in traffic in chelsea (fan seems to kick in at 100 and reduces temp to 90).

FWIW, my 500 sits at just over 70 in this sort of weather (i.e. < 10 deg C) and edges up to about 80 sitting in traffic. My fans come on not long after 80. I've only ever seen it edge towards 100 when one of the fan fuses has blown.

My Chimp 500 runs exactly the same as this.

If you read the TVRCC mag then you will have seen an article for my Griff 500. I got the radiator re-cored with a larger core and the difference is amazing. The car is a real honey now and for some reason feels more together/smoother. I have had no ill effects (Mr Heath said ECU problems. I say no chance, the thermostat governs the engine temp with this small mod).
