Well, i wake up and decide to replace the water pump on the Ultima, whilst waiting for sky to turn up..

Took off the hose's and drained the coolant.. Next i thought i'd slacken the alternator, this is where it all went wrong...

I undid one or two bolts, but the last one wasn't left on enough and I made the rookie mistake of not disconecting the battery...The alternator came off and touched the chasis, at which point there was a puff of smoke. I managed to prop the alternator in place whilst i then disconnected the battery.
After examining the wiring, it seems i've fried the wire between the battery and the alternator - another job to do.

right - so back on to the pump, managed to take 3 bolts out, but the fourth is stuck pretty tight and need an extension for the socket set. So walking away i slip on some coolant on the garage floor, and smack my hand on my toolkit, cutting it. Nice.

Give up on the car.. go inside the house to fix freinds pc, he turns it on as my hands are in it, and the fan decides to take out half the nail on my thumb..

To make my day worse, sky never turned up....

i'm going to sleep in a straight jacket tonight..

Must have been one of those days yesterday, i discovered the reason my oil warning lamp wouldnt go off is because i didnt connect it properly (spa loom to ultima loom). i now have to spend today upside down in a virtually cmpleted car looking for a bloody white/brown wire!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol. And there i was thinking it was just me..

Managed to finnaly get the old rusty waterpump off today, and i've just fitted the new one in place. looks much nicer. Just have to put the alternator back on and the belt, and i can see if it all still works..

I've replaced the burnt out section of the wire that i can see, but i might run a new cable just in case. I don't want anything else happening!

Hi Darren

Its all pretty straight forward as long 'YOU PAY ATTENTION, unlike yours truly!!! Proper planning is the key.
The spa loom is well labelled and not particularly complicated. If you have any probs , drop me a line and i will happily say yep, i did that to.
Really though any confusion you have with it i'll try and help.

Steve . . . . . . . thanks for that . . . . . not one of your most technical answers but correct none the less.

p.s. Today went much better and was able to work around white/brown problem.
