Upside down smiley faces all around the house today, the missus is not happy, I'm not happy, my son isnt best pleased either "you're crazy" was his response..

I just dont use it enough, and it restricts me from doing anything else.

Simply put, whilst paying to run it I cant afford to save for anything else.

So she's got to go whilst I save for 12 months to get a replacement, maybe another TVR, maybe a noble, maybe a GT3...

Will have to see.

erm, let em see if i understand this..

the car you currently have takes too much of your income, stopping you from doing other things..

so your plan is to sell this car, then save free cash for another car?

To clarify, it restricts me financially from doing anything else.. More specifically paying off my outstanding loan.

Taking the cash from the sale, and the money I will save by not paying to run it for 8-10 months I'll be able to pay off pretty much everything I owe by the end of the year making me £800pcm richer.

Once I've got all that out of the way I'll start shopping around for something new!

Hopefully by that time I'll have a bit more spare time on my hands for trackdays, meets etc.

Credit crunch ?

Family should come first. Just buy a car that you can comfortably afford to run....and then tell the wife and kids to get better jobs. smile

Agreed but not sure a Noble or GT3 would fall into that category though. Mind you if the wife falls for it I say GO for it. wink

Had to make the same decision this time last year had a bad back on and off for around 5 months last year and the poxy weather just wasn't being used.

Not a good time to sell, mine took 7 months before it went.

That's a heck of a lot of money to save over the next few months. It's a sad decision but needs must and it's not like you can never have another one later. Good luck.

Don't follow the logic at all. Seems to me the most you can put towards another car at £800 per month is £9600 which won't get you anywhere near a GT3 or a Noble. Which you won't be able to drive often enough either.

You need to get a motor which is a bit more depreciation proof and cheaper to buy and run than a Tuscan. Like a Griffith.

Why not just mothball it for a few months on fire and theft insurance and a SORN and then come back to it later on.

May be a bit simplistic but the loss you'll make on selling and then buying later will probabaly wipe out any savings you might have banked.

I did think about that, but it lives outside and I any garages for rent around here are typically in absolute dumps where the car would be pinched in five minutes flat!

Its definitely the right decision, I'll be in such a better financial position in a years time the world will be my lobster!

Give or take £3000 a year, (servicing, insurance, tax, repairs, tyres etc) not including depreciation or petrol. (or "optional" mods)

eek Crikey, considering you don't drive it enough tyres can't be costing that much so servicing or insurance must be very high. My Griff costs about £350 p/a to insure, and say the same for servicing plus £195 tax. so not more than a grand all in.
