My wife bought me DOWII as a valentines gift and unfortunately my PC won't run it! I left it installing and updating overnight, but trying to run the game gives me nothing but a black screen, a couple of frozen logos, and some intermittent sound.

I have Windows XP, running on a GeForce 7900GT card with 256MB memory, and an AMD Athlon 64X2 3200+ dual core processor running at 200MHz, both of which are well above the minimum specs as far as I can see, but only 512MB system RAM when the game asks for at least 1GB. If I just go and buy a stick of RAM and plug it in, will everything spring into life or will I have to buy other upgrades as well?

I downloaded 3DMark06 to see how my system performed, I got a score of 4800ish. I was getting 10-15fps on the graphics card tests, and zero frames per second on the CPU tests! I have no idea whether those results are normal for a system like mine, way lower than they should be, or what?

There's your problem, if it asks for a minimum of 1GB then it needs a minimum of 1GB to run.

And then Robert will be your father's brother.

Make sure you get the right type of memory though.

1 Gig is entry level now, don't panic about the CPU tests though, quite common for zero or 1 to 2 fps for even very quick CPU's.
It is simply testing graphical capabilities etc without using the GPU.

I put an extra 1GB stick in and the game is now working fine, albeit with all the effects turned off. Thanks for the help guys.
