right from some of the feedback ive had on here it seems i would benefit from a filter or 2, i dont really understand the sizeing, so for your info i have a Sony A200 and i just have the 18-80mm kit lense. So what size filter do i need?

Help please as im going to Marrakesh on the 5th March and am expecting it to be rather sunny and warm :crossesfingersandprays:

There is a thread on the front of your lens - it's that thread size which determines the filter size that you need, not anything to do with your lens focal length.

Have a look on the front of the lens itself it will say on there thumbup

If it's the 18-70mm lens, the answer is 55mm according to the Sony website. It should also say somewhere on the lens (a diameter symbol and a number).

You mention a couple of filters - the only screw-in filter I can see you benefiting from would be a polariser, other than that I can't see what else you are expecting to buy that will help you?

You don't NEED any filter, so to speak.

It's just what you're hoping to get with the images you take as to how you construct them (if you see what I mean).

I think a nice start is a circular polariser. Get that, get used to what it does and the effect it has on light and take it from there smile

On a digital camera the only purpose a UV filter serves is to leave it on all the time to protect the front of the lens from scratching. There's a lot of debate about whether or not to do that. Some say that it's better to scratch a £20 filter than 100s of pounds worth of lens, others that they reduce the quality, that the risk of scratching is very low and that it doesn't cost that much to get a lens repaired anyway.
