Waxoyl.....where to begin

Right, I've decided to try and Waxoyl my 99 Chim myself and haven't got a clue where to start.....(Apart from underneath, obviously).
I am a DIY numpty and want to learn.
I am hoping to get access to a ramp of some sort, so I don't have to use axle stands and lie upside down.....

So, which bits am I covering ? Do I just paint the stuff on ? Do i need to clean it all up first ? etc etc

Covered in the bible. Also these is a sample chapter on my Website that covers the chassis which will give you a lots of pointers. Apart from that follow the instructions on the can. Also with winter put can in hot water before use and be prepared to get messy!

Alternatively, as it's a long and filthy job...

...get a TVR garage to do it for you - most do deals for a steam/waxoyl (Peninsula did mine for £80!)

It doesn't give you that 'I did it myself/I've learned alot' satisfaction, but they say ignorance is bliss

Save yourself all that hard work - simply coat yourself in glue then roll around in some dirt! Same result in minutes

Thats just the feeling I want to have when I have done mine. Might think differently when I have attempted it.

Mine you I do like to get roll around and get dirty every now and then and get the warm feeling of satisfaction

I did mine myself at home with a gun and compressor, learnt a lot, got a lot of satisfaction, was also rust proof for 2 weeks afterwards and smelt funny.

No, no the car is still rust proof. I was rust proof for two weeks. (Father was filling the gun whilst I held the funnel. Funnel overflowed = 1 rust proof Chris

Also did mine at home, firstly do a search for Waxoyl (and Waxoil) here on P'Heads there are loads of threads on "how I did it" etc. 1) The money I saved on paying a garage I used to buy a decent trolly jack & another pair of axle stands, £100 at Machine Mart for a really low one to get under the Griffith 2) It was a good opportunity for me to have a proper look at the chassis 3) I used a wire brush and Hammerited the wishbones and a few other places that needed touching-up 4) As Steve says, run a sink full of very hot water and keep the tin in that whilst you do it, and... 5) the best way to get it on I found was to dilute it 50/50 with white spirit and spray it on with one of those hand held sparyers (a tip I saw here on Pistonheads) - Actually I used an empty spray bottle that had had wheel cleaner in it but you get the idea. Took a Saturday and Sunday morning to do the job to my satisfaction and I know exactly what it's all like under there now! Rich...

I have nightmare visions of Waxoyl up the doors and sills, etc

Or is it a paintbrush job for the siderails?

Not at all, the spray nozzle goes nicely up the side rails and sprays waxoyl in the places a brush wouldn't reach, also good on all the wishbones etc. I just experimented and found it worked the best.

Masked up the sides a bit, but have one of those fexible hose atttatchments for my gun, great for the out riggers.
