Iv been pondering again and once more i have a question to tax even the brightest of pher minds....ok, maybe not this time

How much do Church of England men of faith earn? and where does their pay come from? Is it purely from collections?

Local clergy tend not to earn a great deal, but will often live in a house owned by either the local church or the diocese.

I have no idea what a bishop earns, but I expect there's a joke in there somewhere.

Some figures from 2007

It's not lucrative, but not bad for 1 day a week

Curates: £14,680-£15,820
Parish clergy (e.g. vicar): £16,420
Cathedral-based canons: £20,200
Junior bishops: £24,790
Diocesan bishops: £30,120
Archbishop of Canterbury: £55,660

Although vicars collect fees for conducting weddings and funerals, these go to the diocese to fund stipends.

Plus of course free accommodation

The average village vicar is on about £15k or so, but get a free house until they retire. Military padres do really well. I'm sure they start on about £55 grand or so - we get a lot of interest from the younger lot joining up.

They don't carry weapons! Even the 'bishes' doing the commando course carry a metal crook that weighs the same as an SA80.... although one of the steelier bishes I know said that he would pick up somebody else's rifle to use it in self-defence or in order to protect somebody wounded from being shot. Can't remember what the geneva convention says on this, but iirc it means that he would lose his rights of protection.

Not in the C of E old chap.

Should imagine that sermons can be borrowed from some sort of ecclesiastical library.
Or maybe they're sent out from the command centre.

After all the management will want to make sure that everyone's on message and singing off the same song sheet.

Local clergy will typically be working for more like 6 days a week, often at unsociable hours.

I have friend who is a reverend curate and he works a lot harder than I do.

where do they live after that? or are they expected to save from their (pretty small) wages over their years so they can buy a pace for cash?

Yeah, its more like an hour or maybe two depending on the amount of preperation Yes I know I'll probably not get into heaven etc, and yes I know they really work a lot harder etc etc etc

It's not bad when you consider the main prerequisite is claiming very loudly that you have an invisible friend.
