Very few second hand cars for sale recently; is this a time of the year thing or we blame Gordon Brown?

I feel most owners know if they advertised their car now it won’t sell.......or won’t sell for the money they want anyway.

Houses have gone down 16-20% and being in the motor trade I know all second hand cars are now worth 20% less than they were 3 months ago. And that’s not due to depreciation... Newish shape (06) M3 and M5 are now under 10k.....

I sold my sunbeam recently knowing it was worth 30k all day long but ended up selling it for 24k, because it’s only worth what people are prepared to pay for it.

I do feel for the Ultima builders as not only does it cost 50-70k to build a car, and include free labour to build it, but when you come to sell it, no one wants to pay more than they feel it is worth. I’m interested in a certain car that has been advertised recently for a while and I feel its worth 'X' but the owner wants 'Y'(im not going to say who or what car it is as that’s not fair), but I have not even been to view the car as I do not want to waste anyone’s time.....but he knows I love the car and would love to buy it,.... I certainly dont want to invest in a car and then find if i have to sell it later its only worth 50% what i paid for it because i paid too much.

Unfortunately im afraid it will not get better either. We are looking at major recetion, 3 million unemployed soon and im afraid it won’t be long before Ultimas are advertised at £20k and houses down another 20%-25%.

I do hope not but realality is upon us, and toys are at the bottom of everyones list.

I won't bite on the "rob you" comment as that has been answered above (I have personally lost an absolute fortune on my 997TT) and unlikely to get any better in the foreseeable future. However I do have my mask and swag bag available for anyone considering selling a decent quality car.

Now I do object to travelling 8 hours in a car with Kyle to spend just 15 minutes looking at a GTR that was mis-described and would not have looked out of place on a back street used car lot......very disappointing.

I have one that I'm always On/Off about selling. I had it for sale for one week at 26.5K and had a fair bit of interest but then started driving it again and took it off Pistonheads. Would probably take around 25K for it now but can't be bothered to sell at the moment and it's tucked away in the Mother-in-Laws garage.
S'pose if someone turned up with the cash then would. Actually really fancy an Atom or a fast Porsche but like a true PH'er that'll change by next week.
Anyhow, I agree with the sentiment and posted here about a year ago suggesting the impending recession would eventually effect Ultima prices although was soundly rebuked.

I was somewhat interested in the black car at Topgearcars, however for me it's an 8 hour drive each way!!

Is it worth the drive up to the Frozen North?

David and i went to see it last week and to be honest it was very disappointing

no lowered floor
terrible panel fit
bodgy wiring in the engine bay ie just bullet connectors no water protection
horrible engine bay, swirl pots right at the top of the bulkhead without proper connectors.
heavy rust on the disks and shocks to the extent i could not even make out the condition of the shocks.

i did not even start the engine or check the electrics, we decided that it was not worth the effort to make it a good car. At 28k we felt it needed too much time and money to get back into shape. If someone wants a car to do up it may be ok but not at 28k imo.

Rusti you had a lovely GTR which you sold after spending a load on to improve, you missing it and do you regret selling it??

Looks like Kyle beat me to it....get on with some work!

No!....not lowered floor (and I'm a big lad!), very bad panel fit, school boy wiring, all wheels badly kerbed, front clip damaged, paint work shagged and chipped, chassis rusty/covered in crap, sealant failing around all "glass" work....etc etc.

Not that any of that should put you off....it might make someone a nice track car but not for me.

Never mind the car being disappointing.....I had so spend 8 hours in a car with Kyle!

Kyle,

Yes, in a moment of sillyness I sold the car and I have to beat myself up regular basis for the stupidity of thatsilly

The LS 7 was truly superb but the scrub radius problem with the standard front end was really getting on my tits.

At present I have A Cunning Plan which hopefully will involve a certain Mr Steve Smith and some radical work;)

4.5K in December, but it was my last bonus so operating on the 'what wife doesn't know won't hurt me' principal it hit our account then went straight to Ultima Sports and Rapid GB. So I never really had the cash anyhow.

Maybe it's a little low priced but mine needs TLC as it's used a fair bit, it's no show pony but will be when I retire (if I still have it then).

Meanwhile Rusty Evo was wondering if the world carbon fibre shortage was going to affect the completion of hi SSS special project?
