I've just removed clutch/brake master cylinders off Geralds friend - well cooked by the fire all plastic bits melted. Any point in keeping the other alloy bits, are the master cylinders difficult to get

No, I got a spare from ebay for £9.99 (brand new) and a full servo, cylinder and reservoir (as new but fitted and used for a couple of years for £28 delivered). They come up relatively regularly - They are also available from most motor factors as they are from the XR2i Mk 3 which is still around in boy racer land (albeit at a cost this way £120 for a servo and around £65 for a master cylinder).

Also IMHO if the rest is cooked then the seals inside the cylinder will be as well and the alloy could well be distorted.
