Best games that run on DOS or Windows 95/98?

Hi All,

I've recently set up an old computer to play games on. I currently have installed:

Battlezone & The Red Odyssey
G-Police
Fragile Allegiance
Master of Orion 2
Dungeon Keeper (with a 3d patch )
Deep Fighter (Not a very good game, but David Walliams is in it )
Syndicate Wars
X-COM Interceptor

What are the best pre-XP games? And would you still play them now even with their obvious disadvantages?

Battlezone (Activision 1998) is fantastic and there are no modern games available like it. I used to play it multiplayer years ago over a serial cable connection.

Syndicate wars (1996) is the oldest game here and has been my biggest disappointment.

Worms and Doom were the staples of my 3.1 experience.

I forgot Doom, but then I run it via Doomsday on my PC here for full 3d (up and down) mouse look viewing and updated graphics

Half Life (1) System Shock 2 and Jedi Knight (Dark Forces 2) are the best adventure/fps games I've played. Both run under 98.

RTS I'd say Red Alert 2

Older dos; xcom, nectaris, doom, quake, dark forces are a few I remember

Theme Hospital is very similar to Dungeon Keeper (in an odd kinda way).
System Shock was preceded by 2 excellent 3D first-person RPG/adventure games called Ultima Underworld and (originally) Underworld II. Well worth looking out if you like those sorts of games.

Ah....Dues Ex. I have that somewhere. My brother completed it and said it was one of the best games he ever played! I never got round to playing it. I'll go dig it out.

The PC is 800MHz PIII, 256 RAM, 16MB 3Dfx Blaster Banshee graphics card. Might not be good enough to run Deus Ex, but I'll give it a go.

I had Frontier on the Amiga and I got quite far in it. I had the biggest ship in the game...cant remember what it's called. It took too many hours of boring cargo runs and frustrating combat to get there though! I always fancied trying out Frontier First Encounters, which was the sequal to Frontier.

I'll see if I can aquire Theme Hospital and Worms. I always heard good things about them, but never bought them. What's the best version of Worms?

I'm most interested in games that don't have modern counterparts. I completed System Shock 2 and Civ2, but have since moved on to Bioshock-(amazing game) and Civ 4. Thanks for the suggestions!

Did anyone ever get Battlecruiser 3000/Millennium to actually work? I always thought it sounded like it could be great, but I don't think anyone managed to get it to run properly.

Oh yes, I wasted a lot of homework time on that one! Theme Park is a good bet as well, tried to get that working on XP but was gutted when I couldn't

I always enjoyed Populas, although I had that on my Amiga, not PC.
