bonnet prop catch
Discussion
Whats the normal arangement for this? I have, when the prop is down a piece of plastic which is stuck to the body/bulkhead with a sticky pad. This is then padded out with paper to make the prop stay put. Must be a better method and i hope this isn't the norm.

with a domed tap washer just to the side to stop the bonnet stay moving sideways

Mine has a similr arrangement but I think its just a self adhesive rubber foot.http://www.tvrspareparts.com/part/22/bonnet-stay-c...

Top tip - get a long reusable zip tie (the sort with a latch to release them), make a loop and attach the loop to the top of the bonnet stay with a smaller zip tie done up tight. When the stay is fitted, you can loop this over the bonnet pin to stop the bonnet stay dropping out of the bonnet. After the bonnet has dropped on your head two or three times you will appreciate how important this is.

I have one of the free post office rubber bands - you know the ones the postman throws away on the pavement - which I twist round the bonnet stay until it is reasonably well fixed about 3 ins from the end and then I just put the end loop over the retaining clip to stop the stay from coming loose on the road. It does work as the only time it came loose was when I'd not put it on.
There you go thats today's useless (?) fact!!

Great minds think alike - have already got a similar arrangement on the prop. Two ties one fitted tight round the spring pin, then a larger one which loops around the prop with just enough slack to fit.
Last job of the winter/enginebayproject, made a new stay to replace rusty one and done this to stop it slipping out using an R pin, does the job and when stored flat the pin stops it from rattling out....maybe not the last job, back of that bracket needs painting and new cable clip req'd
