I actually clicked on that albeit I didnt actually read the URL till afterwards.I this was a very old thread, but none of the links here either exist or work now. Does anyone have a link that would give a more detailed V5 check than the one here: https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dv...

Hi realise this is an old thread but in case anyone searching on Google find this, http://cazana.com lets you see number of previous owners. Hope that helps! Cheers

Cazana has now changed and much of the information they gave freely is now only given if you buy a check from them. You can guess a few things though as it lists “Events” and those can mean ownership or numberplate changes. It no longer tells you of past registration number details nor number of owners...it is still useful and the full report is good but you have to pay.
In fact I did buy a Report regarding a two year old Range Rover Sport at a Main dealership and found the “two owner” car (which was in superb order and specification) in fact had three owners, had passed through an import/export dealer even though claims to be a full UK car, had been bought from that dealer and only 700 miles and eight weeks later sold on for a c.£10,000 drop! After that it has been untaxed for five months so presumably sitting on a forecourt. Hence the £9.99 was well spent and saved me from buying a car that looks perfect but has a strange history!

Create yourself a free Autotrader account, then go to Sell Your Car, enter the registration number and milage, then enter the value. On the next screen it will tell you the number of previous owners...
Thank you!!!Never thought of that and saves so much hassle! So simple but it works
