I'm looking for a track pump to keep in the garage for for my road bike. Are they all pretty much the same or would you recommend certain makes? Topeak and Blackburn seem pretty popular in the shops. Are these OK or would would recommend something else?
Cheers, James.

I've got a blackburn air tower 2, it does the job.

Don't know what the differnce between a Blackburn and a Topeak would be ?

I’ve got a Topeak Joe Blow Max 2 and it’s been faultless. But for a road bike the Joe Blow Sport would be the one to get as the Max 2 is only 120psi (way more than I’d ever need on mtb) whereas the Sport is 160psi. I don’t know about the Blackburn track pumps, but I somehow managed to split the alloy shaft on my Blackburn mini-pump!

I bought a Park Tools PFP-3 for my roadie a few months ago - obviously does the mtb too but can easily get to 110psi (which is what I usually do my road tyres to) - the dial goes up to 160psi!! Have had some problems with it blowing off the valve at high temperatures (due to the valves having a smooth grip surface) but I either just put it on again and give it another shot (which usually works) or hold it there to give a bit more grip and push the handle with one hand....either way, it works biggrin

I've got the Blackburn Air Tower 2 - solid metal construction and it goes to 160psi. Does the job every time.

I had a Blackburn which I picked up at one of those Cycle Promotions sunday warehouse sales, but it soon went wrong unfortunatly. CP swapped it for me with no quibbles and I went for a Park pump, much better. My mate has a Joe Blow which possibly seems the smoothest of the bunch.

Specialized track pumps where the best a few years ago (well better than Joe Blow, Topeak, Blackburn, which would break and didn't produce the volume or pressure of the Spesh) when I was in the trade.

Never tried the Park Tools track pump, so can't compare/comment.

I had a Revolution track pump - Edinburgh Cycle Coop own brand - which was faultless. A mate left it in Morzine for me the first year we went. Was very good and the 'bleed valve' was handy. Can't remember what pressure it went up to.

Now have a Park one. Don't have the model number to hand. It doesn't have a 'bleed valve' though which is annoying.

If you're wanting it to seat tubeless mtb tyres then I'd look for a double barrelled one.

They will do 120/130 psi no bother.

Cheaper version is ~£15, and ~£25 for one with a bleed valve.

I've got the cheap one in my garage at home, and we absolutely hammer these pumps in the shop and they last very well. Cant really see why you'd spend any more to be honest.

Silca Super pista. sorted for about 25 years, much better than anything made of plastic.

oh, and will pump up to 16 bar (240psi) and you can buy spares easily.

+1 (although I've never tried to put extra high pressures in roady tyres with mine, so YMMV)
