Just in case anyone out there knows of one, or is considering selling theirs.
Cheers

No joy with getting someone to look at the one in Ireland?

I'd perhaps put a WANTED on MTorque too. I did own a 3.0 in Dakar many years back...but even then it was over your 100k limit smile

Great car though, so good luck with the search! One will come, I'm sure.

Hi. Thats the one in Northern Ireland. I am seriously thinking about flying over to take a look. Price wise any thoughts? seems about right to me, maybe 4.5K

Have to disagree there, it's just got a list of standard features. No mention of history, recent work or previous owners. In addition I'd be put off by the rank alloys and hideous ///M seatbelt pad things - I know they can easily be changed but I think it speaks volumes about the owner...

made contact with the owner by email with a list of questions, didnt seem too forthcoming with answers, just gave me his mobile number and said call him if i was interested. I think that says something too.

I think it says plenty if you cannot be bothered to pick up the phone and make a call and ask the man the questions you want...

If I'm scanning ads on the net, and I find a car that might be of interest, then my first contact would probably be by email, and then by phone to arrange to view if it seems likely that the car could be the one for me.

Its a big risk going over to Ireland to pick the car up. I've been let down so many times by people lying about the condition of the car over the phone. The worst I ever experience was a 5 hour drive to see a E30 325i sport, I told the guy how far I was coming and asked him to be honest with me about the car, the guy insisted it was in very, very good condition and no problems at all.....When I arrived there the car had a leaking steering rack because the car had been driven off a kerb (His reasoning: Na man its cool, you just top it up every few days), 2 wheels studs snapped off in the hub, so only two studs holding the wheel on. Whip lash on the drivers door and wing, from wind catching the door and bending the two parts against each other. The rest of the car was pretty beat as well.

Some people just take the piss!

Nowadays I ask the seller to upload a video of the vehicle on youtube if I have to go a long way, from that you get a lot better idea of what the car is actually like, get them to show close up of the car and start the car up. Good luck with the search matey!

Indeed. I hate dealing with people via email. If I want to buy a car, I want to speak to the seller in person and that way I can build up a picture of what he's like. If he sounds like a pikey, I'll run a mile.

I hear what you say, but, if i were a seller, and someone contacted me by email, expressing an interest in the car and asking some fairly straight forward questions, i would want to try and use the opportunity to sell the car, that's the whole point of advertising it. I would'nt cherry pick some of the questions or answer in a vague way and say call me if you are interested. To me it gives out the wrong message. To be fair to the guy, if he had been within fairly easy driving distance, i would have called him and gone and taken a look. But as i dont have the time to fly to NI, i would have just have been wasting his time and mine. Thats not fair to either party.

Understand your comments and I sm of the opinion that if you put an email address in an ad you should be willing to answer the questions asked in one, however I find that telephone enquiries seem to generate a "better quality" ie more likely to buy customer.

I usually find most e-mail's are written in txt spk which rarely warrant a reply, or people asking if I would accept 60% of asking price....and oddly, they usually have addresses like Adz69Killz@hotmail.com or something equally dubious.

I would happily respond to a sensible, well written e-mail, no bother, but would expect a phone call/viewing would follow soon after, assuming what was said was deemed acceptable to them (i.e. prev. owners etc)

Couldnt agree more. As a seller, if you get the guy on the phone you can start to "sell" the car, and guage the responses. To go back to my original thread, the point i was trying to make, was that by ducking specific questions, i felt the guy was trying to avoid something. and didnt start things on the right foot. As you say, a quick phone call and some pointed questions would reveal all, hopefully. Pity really, because the car really does look pretty good

Give the guy a chance! I would speak to him direct on the "Dog & Bone"! 3 years ago I was in his position. I had an immaculate Audi TT 225 with full AudiSport Bodykit. Put it on eBay & had a very nice guy from Dublin have an AA Inspection done (costing him some £300). He transferred the £19,000+ to my bank account 3 days later & flew into Norwich Airport where I collected him, put him up for the night, took him out for a meal then he drove to the Anglesy ferry very happily. I did the same in 2007 - selling (stupidly) my AC Schnitzer 3.0SE Z4 for £19,250 to a great guy from Manchester. Again, he looked at the photo's did an HPI check & flew down to collect the car - with no independent check. 6 months ago he 'phoned me out of the blue to say how happy he was with the car.

My cars rarely last 8 months before I get bored. They are fervently looked after. I've been divorced several times because I spend more time in the garage than the bedroom. (& I prefer my garage & my right hand to any woman that I have ever known!).

Talk to the seller on the telephone & trust your senses. You will sense IMMEDIATELY if he is trying to twist you.

Mike. Ciow.

Totally agree, I've always put my e-mail address on adverts - Ok you do get a fair number of Nigerian Princes and businessmen who want to buy it for their friend. But I've found that it sometimes helps with some buyers who are a bit nervous about making the phone call. It works as a good way to establish contact though I have drawn the line at those e-mail from people who've copied a car checklist from a website and expect the written answers to 40 questions. I tend to ask them to call me at that stage.
