MSD woes – NO Spark!

I have an issue with my MSD 6AL Ignition, which is second hand and came with the engine as ‘full working order’.
This could not have come at a worst time; the car is due to go to the factory early next week for its safety checks, SVA and Registration.
Turning on the ignition and I get the ignition light on, ok so far, hit the starter, engine turns over but no spark!
I have checked all of my wiring many times and am convinced that it follows the Ultima instructions for an MSD installation.
Simple question: is there a way of testing the MSD unit and Blaster Coil?

yes if you have the instructions it gives the way to test the unit, mine has also just gone to be honest they are crap, if i wasnt going to a LS i would be upgrading it asap!!This could not have come at a worst time; the car is due to go to the factory early next week for its safety checks, SVA and Registration.

To test for spark disconnect the king lead from the dizzy and position it 10mm from something metal on the engine like the inlet manifold.
Disconnect the green and violet wires at the connector.
Turn on ignition and short the violet and green to each other. You should get a spark when you remove the short.

ETA Silly question but you do have all the connections in place. In particular the switched ignition 12v comes in on the thin red wire to the 6AL and there must be another unswitched heavy duty 12v supply on the thick red wire. This should come direct from the battery or possibly from the main feed to the starter.
Disconnect the green and violet wires at the connector.
Turn on ignition and short the violet and green to each other. You should get a spark when you remove the short.

Help may be at hand for those with failed units but I'm confused .A while back I posted a title "reliability of ignition parts" quoting that I had:
1.MSD blaster coil.
2.Summit 850600 ignition pack.
3.Mallory/Summit dizzy 850050.
Replies said that the above parts were very reliable.Now I read that MSD packs are unreliable.Presumably my pack is different to an MSD one ?[It is a black box with ally mounting brackets each end and a window/trap door in which there is a line of switches for rpm limit.There's no name on it].If this is the case why don't people change over to my type when theirs fail ?

I have used a http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autof... for years and never had an issue despite being dowsed with oil, water and probably over heated. Never missed a beat.
