does anyone have experience of obtaining sponsorship for a one-off event? I would be grateful if you could drop me a mail and I can probe you with a few questions.
thanks

The rules for single event sponsorship are pretty much the same as for a season-long event. Essentially, what does the sponsor stand to gain from it. Whether that is exposure (TV, press, etc.) and promotional opportunity, corporate entertaining, etc, the opportunities will be very similar.
The key difference (obviously) is the time available to exploit it. Either, you need to offer them value for money in the shorter time frame, or look for ways to extend the time frame (exploiting the build-up, or post event activities).

As an example, the bulk of the coverage of Thrust SSC was during the 10-odd weeks they spent at Black Rock. But they were able to gain a lot of benefits during the years of build-up:
- The story of building a supersonic car
- Getting sponsors to see the car in build
- The search for a driver (covered on Tomorrow's World, IIRC)

Drop me a PM of you want. Depending on the activity, Polar Ben might be able to offer advice as well.
