Folks, apologies if this one's been done to death, but I'm interested in what it's like living with a Ferrari - not from the perspective of costs etc, but more of practicality.

I'm on my third TVR, across the last 7-8 years, and am getting a bit fed up with them, so thinking about what's next.

I'm a bit anal about my cars and am always careful where I park etc (e.g. supermarket car parks are a complete no-go area), and also it really winds me up when some scrote gives out to me for driving a fancy car (you know the "HEY RICH WxxKER WITH THE FANCY CAR" type), or when someone cuts me up when I know for sure they wouldn't have bothered had I been driving a beat-up fiesta (for example).

Will this worsen with a Ferrari?

ps - I live in London, which doesn't help!

Hi, I guess I am careful where I travel in the Horse, compared to my TVR it is physically bigger, although easier to drive in traffic. I would only park in a wide parking bay as the doors are very long and if someone parks too close you will find it hard to get back in. It depends if you have no choice but to drive the Ferrari daily, I would say that I would never use it daily because you would always be looking for suitable parking etc, and not to mention 15 mpg (MAX). Nice weather and open roads if I can.

Cheers
G.

Gixxer, I had my 348GTS after a Griff 500. I had the Ferrari for just over 2 years and used it most days in all weather. Just made sure that I kept the oil changed regularly and always dried it off and covered it when weather was bad. Also any problems that arose (which were very very few) were always fixed promptly.

It was a great great car and I loved every minute of it. Look at a lot when buying as they do vary, I looked at between 20 and 30 before buying mine.

In terms of image, yes, you do get the odd to$$er calling you a ******er but hey, who cares, it was very rare for that to happen. The car did attract a lot of attention though, mostly good. Sorry, I'm rambling, first thing in morning and all that.

What sort of Ferrari are you considering ?

ps. Just re read your post, I live in London too, I used it to commute in most days, parked it on the street sometimes(was always careful where though) and the only difference with using the TVR every day was that I wasnt late for work every day with the Ferrari

Craig, thanks for the feedback. I'm considering a 355 or 360. Got pretty serious about a 348 Spider about 4 years ago, but bottled it at the time due to unpredictable maintenance costs (rightly or wrongly!). That's less of a concern now, so thoughts are creeping in the Ferrari direction once again.

I also live in London, and I've used both my old car and my new one on a daily basis. I'd say the 360 is much more a daily use car, and in this last month of ownership I've put about 2k on it. Its used in the rain, left outside on roads in the West End etc, used to go shopping, cinema, dinner, etc etc.

I'm not as careful about where I park this one compared to the previous one. I think the colour does it a favour by reducing attention. You still get the odd name calling and crap but that's just sad knobs being sad knobs, something that won't change I guess (unless you culled these types, but we live in a tolerant society).

The only thing is the car is a little wide, but you can live with it easily. I always try to use a nice large space for parking, or one near support columns to ensure I can open my door. Mother and child parking in Tesco's is also fine.

I don't think of it as something that needs to be pampered and bitched over, its just a car at the end of the day. I don't like people to limit what I do because of a fear of someone trying to damage it or whatever, I just hope I catch them in the act if they do, oh and that there aren't like 10 of them... with crowbars...looking like they just came out of a ghetto gym...

Ninja, I know I'm rather slow, but I didn't realise you'd changed the 355!!!

Congratulations, and can I say a fantastic colour choice, show's a well balanced mind and superb taste, and so much nicer that those loud red ones!!!!

ha ha ha, thanks.

I heard somewhere that those who choose black Ferrari's are actually geniuses to be honest with you, its nice because it gets so much less attention at night, perfect!

I think you went for Sabbia leather in the end? Its what I would have preferred, but the interior is growing on me I guess. I saw one with bordeux interior, thought it looked nice actually.

Cheers for the further info guys, and I take the point about colour subtlety. However, as this would be my first Ferrari, I feel it simply has to be in red (sorry, but we are all there once right), thus magnifying the attention.

All food for thought though.

I live with a slightly older Ferrari, and like an elderly family pet it doesn't like going out much in the winter, wees on the floor and costs a small fortune in vet's bills.

Still love it though!
