Saw these handy tips in a photo mag in wh smith the other day and thought they were quite good.
1 Fishing bank sticks can be stuck in to soft ground to support off-camera flashes. They have a 1/4 inch thread on top. Get them on ebay for less than a fiver
2 Steal some shower caps from the hotel and use them as covers to keep camera dry
3 Wear a fluorescent vest and make a press pass (eg one bighugelabs.com) and you are guaranteed to get access anywhere to get photos
4 Tesco have 15 in 1 card readers for less than a fiver atm
5 Rizzla papers are the same as lens cleaning papers and leave no fibres behind but are lots cheaper than "lens papers"

Yes, I am now an official shower cap collector! The pics in the magazine were quite funny. I'm trying to find myself a cheap yellow vest now :-P

I love top tips like that. I'm not sure about the Rizla papers for lens cleaning. They are good at diffusing flash when placed over the flash lens (allegedly). I wouldn't go strapping my big Metz to a fishing pole though. The shower cap made me chuckle though.
