I have had a thought about setting up a register of ex-TVR employees on here...may be with contact details (if people are willing)..... A WIKI recording the area in which they worked, specialism etc. .. I know a lot of owners like to know who were involved in building, supporting, servicing and generally administrating the supply of their cars. Just not sure if the employees would like their details open to access. But I think in years to come it would be a good historical record to celebrate the existance of TVR.
Am I a sentimental old git and it's a bad idea ??? or what ??? Feelings from ex-employees would be greatly appreciated.

Surely that would contravene the no naming and shaming policy !

Personally, as a TVR nut since the early '80's, I firmly believe TVR will come back one day given some solid financial backing.

Why?

Because, apart from Lotus (who I'm also a nut for having owned 11 to-date), they are the only British manufacturer that actually made it in the last 20 years. Al Melling seems to have the right idea, but I can't see that being anymore than another very small volume operation. TVR had made the step up to 1000+ cars per year, not the 10+.

So yes, please for the future of a new TVR (even if called another name), keep your expertise available both to the dedicated band of existing owners, but also for the new company that will eventually arise from the ashes as it always has before. Perhaps the first British fuel cell powered sports car? Come on, I know some that read TVR threads have access to serious money and are not Russian!

Obviously check that the person wanted/didn't mind his name appearing, then a good idea.

I don't think it's right to start a list without anyone's permission even if they do post on here on a regular basis.
The fact that no Ex Bristol Avenue employees have posted on this thread suggests something to me....

I'd suggest you start a wiki so that anyone who wanted to could add their name.

If you know of an ex employee who is still in the field and who's business contact information is already publically available - on tinterweb, I'd say publish away. We're not talking about their home addresses here.

Might be because they're either busy, or don't want to be the first to put their hand up saying I'd like some free advertising. Although you haven't said what it suggests to you, so maybe you're thinking the same too.

Good, good. We're all agreed then.

To the OP, it's a great idea and resource, get it started with those that you know who's contact information is already available elsewhere but not in the same place.

If that's what we're talking about then yes I agree.
But putting up a list of ex employees who may or may not post here and what they did etc as an interesting resource is a no no without their permission. There are some who post here anonymously, now it may well be that people know who they are, but it's up to them if they want to 'go public' in some sort of resource.

Most of the guys who are in business have had publicity either via posters such as Keith, me and other satisfied customers. That said I know of one or two guys who are still very active in the business but have told me that while working at TVR was important they'd rather go about their business without relying on their TVR past.

Just being devil's advocate here but as mentioned in the first reply to the OP would a wiki of businesses in the forum be looked on differently to recommendations? I think it would. I know that PH, like the TVRCC forums, do not permit adverts in the forums, so any Wiki of a business run by ex-TVR employees would be a blatent advert without any recommendation.
Which brings us back to my point that if it's just a list of ex-employees and what they did at TVR then it is purely down to the individual to add themselves to such a list and not be added by someone who happens to know them.

Hey Glow worm - it is a good idea - just do it; or run a poll.

Answers:
Yes - Great idea, will really help me or a new owner out when I'm in a bind

or

No - having a resource of the most skilled TVR craftsmen available is an awful idea why did you even think to suggest it on a TVR resource like PH?

I cannot see this will be any great benefit. Those you have set up in business have already made themselves known. someone will be posting their pictures on this forum with out asking them next.

I tend to agree with Larco. I don't think its such a good idea. Most ex employees have now moved on and are doing different things. The guys who want to make themselves known already do. Gerbil and Potatoe Muncher, to name but two, are regulars and answer threads pertaining to all things bodywork and paint.

The mear fact that not one ex exployee has posted on this thread, as far as I know, speaks volumes.

Don't quite see the logic in that statement... If they had seen the thread they could say quite easily say NO ... tend to think we don't see quite as many ex-TVR employees on here now, hence no response one way or the other.

Anyway its what the ex-employees say that I'm more interested in.

PS Amazing how many times MY photo is posted without permission... must be more photogenic than you LARCO.

I'm Ex Factory and as I said I think it is a great idea.
It would be good for Ex Factory people that have set up on there own (myself and others included), and also nice to find out what everyone's up to.

Thanks for that.... I always expect V8GRF and NTEL to take a diametricial opposed view to me wink Of course I will consult with people and get their agreement to start it off... but after that leave it free for all to get it going.

I knew you'd assume that Keith but it's not the reason I'm suggesting it needs thought. I've stated all the reasons why it might not be a good idea and it's nowt to do with you on a personal level, anyway I don't have any issues with you it's you that seem to have all the issues.

Just to add anyone who knows me, as you do, knows I'm a big supporter of the businesses setup by ex-workers and indeed I'm working on another article for Mandy at the moment.

Keith, you asked if folk thought if it's a bad idea or what Didn't you? If you don't want peoples opinions that may differ to yours then don't ask.

and why is that? You must be getting paranoid in your old age. Both myself and Dot are great supporters of the ex factory guys who have, and indeed haven't, set up in business. That is well known and well documented.

Pity you didn't turn up to the TVRCC Blackpool regional meet at Track v Road last Sunday. You could have explained why you seem to have a problem with me these days. We'll bump into each other some other time and you can tell me then.
