Yesterday I fitted these indicator lenses to my S2 just thought I'd post this separately from my Year in a Life topic to make is visible to everyone.

These are BMW E30 Smoked Indicator Lenses. They are easy to fit
First of all I had to chisel away the old orange indicator lens from the black plastic surround.
I used black electrical tape to secure them to the indicator pod. Whether the tape last I'm not sure so may have to figure away of glueing them on but for now its good enough and looks OK.

Bought the lenses off of Ebay

If you need to glue them on - try the same stuff they use to fit the Griff light covers Sikaflex 291 it's like a rubber glue (black).thumbup

Surely the screws that are used to secure the whole lot will retain the lenses or am I missing something here? (looks for scratchy head smiley)

I used silicone sealant on mine to keep the water out, then got some Silvatec bulbs and ditched the orange filter.

You have to get a good seal or water will get in which is what the indicator bulb and fitting were suffering from with the old lenses. Electricity + water not a good combination.

Do you want it topless ? biglaugh

Hopefully the car will be fired up this afternoon and I can get it out of the garage if I do then I'll be able to get far enough away to get a photo of the whole front end.

Here's the full frontal you asked for. Sorry it's not the topless model. Enjoy wink

The problem I need to address with using these indicator lenses is the exposed ends of the bumpers. These were covered with the original lenses. Have to figure out a way of filling them in to stop crap getting in.

For anyone else doing this if you do the maverick/terano conversion they are wide enough to cover the end of the bumper strips without having to fill the hole (they don't overlap but cover the end). My website shows you what they look like and as the whole indicator fitsinto the reccess it is just a case of clipping the wiring and re-joining it with a bullet connector and shrink wrap to seal it. No need to split apart the original indicator.

Yes I think they work well. Not so keen on the electrical tape I used so I'll have to redo them at some point although saying that whats the betting it'll be next winters job.

Getting more and more popular the E30 conversion! I did mone some time ago and also used slightly smoked lenses which looked good on my green car. I put a bit of info in on how I did it, this should be the link:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=381690&hw=+%2Bfront+%2Bindicator

I should have added that if you go to the alternative parts list there are links through to the various options on indicator lens conversions.
