I actualy dont mind the man ,he can be witty and when road testing quite interesting but IMO he ruins all his credibility in cars with me when he takes full advantage of having a swipe at American Cars inparticular the Vette.
Do's this bloke ever get on a track!! if so maybe a few of us in Vettes ,Vipers etc should sneak up on him and show him what he's missing.

I know he likes Vipers at least, he used one on his wedding day, and left 2 big tyre marks outside the church....

Interestingly Mr Clarkson lives a couple of miles from me in Chipping Norton. It was a regular occourance to see him in his 355 Fiat GT on the Chipping Norton to Banbury road which just happend to pass our old workshop. There were many happy times when it coinsided with road testing a Vette of some sort or another and we used to take the opportunity to buzz him. Ah happy days!

He liked the new GT40 (sorry £100,000 Mustang) but still took a swipe at the cornering abilities of the vette. He obviously has never driven a Z06.....

He also took a swipe at the reliability of his Merc which was interesting as I would never ever buy another one after owning a SLK and hating it with a passion. It spent about 6 weeks in the (incompetent) dealers and lost about £8,000 in value during my year of ownership. It was horrible to drive and had no headroom when the roof was up.

The lanky fat b*****d could'nt get in the original GT40.
He also got banned from driving the XJ220 by Tom Walkinshaw for making disparaging remarks about the car at the press launch dinner. From then on he made it his business to slag anything from TWR.

As you can tell I am a real fan!!

I hate the bloke as he hates vettes and bikes, and I'm into both.

Interesting what you said about the Merc Nige. I read last week that Germany's finest ie Audi, BMW, VW, Mercs and porsches are now nearly bottom of the reliability stakes, which is still topped by the likes of Toyota that used to compete for top position with these German models.

They also rated very poorly in the satisfaction lists as well.

I bet they have moved a lot of work elsewhere to save on costs. That would explain the drop in quality. I know some VW's are now built in Mexico.

Its an interesting list actually, Porsche Boxter and some of the lesser 996's are made in Sweden and Holland, most of the current BMW's are made in South Africa, Argentina and the US, a lot of the major components for the Merc's are made in India and Taiwan and closer to home the blocks, heads and crankshafts for all of the current Aston Martin's are made in China. Truly a global village the motor industry!

....my experience of Mercedes Main Dealers was they were 1st class at selling and 3rd class at maintaining.
The workshop was staffed by brainless idiots that could not diagnose a simple problem.

My main problem was the roof kept sticking half up, half down. This always happened when it was sunny and took 20 minutes for the computer to reset itself.

I had to suggest after 4 attempts to fix this that they contact MB in Germany to see if this problem was known.
Surprise, surprise it was and it was a 50 pence sensor that needed replacing and not the pump, the ecu, the hydraulics etc.....

I remember watching dear JC having a car built to his spec. It was something like an old Rover with a big engine in it (can't remember very much as I tend to ignore JC's views & comments). It didn't go round corners very well but he loved it. So why does he keep having a go at Yank motors? Could it be because he never test drives any & needs to be disparaging about something? If he was as dismissive about some of the cars that he test drove then he'd soon run out of manufacturers who'd offer him cars. Job security, I reckon. And as he hates the US & their cars, then why does he keep going there? More importantly, why do they let him back out in one piece? Do Bubba & Billy Bob know what he says about them & their motors?
I think he should be replaced by Damon Hill. He's got a far more balanced & objective opinion on cars (& bikes) & he's achieved something that makes his opinion worth listening to.
I don't dislike the guy (the potato cannon was good!), I'm just bored of his biased BS & predictable similes.

Yeah, it would be much better to have someone that knows what they are talking about on TV.

Do you think JC is also hard work to work with ?? As you all know, the rest of the original Top Gear cast left and now do 5th Gear.

Clarkson is a Merc / Ferrari fan - just right for the "jeans and a jacket" look. He should Velcro himself to the deeply uncool end of his wall boards.

Ask yourself a question - is a vette GOOD or is it GOOD ENOUGH TO BE DIFFERENT? Anyone who can't handle the DIFFERENT bit isn't going to be found in a vette. Will that be the M3 Sir, or perhaps a 911? Suits you!!

If he wasn't controversial, which he's paid to be, he wouldn't have a programme to himself. Sure, he's been forever in denial but he is at least openly hypocritical. After all, he LOVED that Ford GT, said he wouldn't buy one but hinted on Sunday that if he did, it would be moved further up the Cool Board. Personally, I think he knows it's better than his precious Ferrari and only that blue oval is stopping him...

Sure, he tried to denigrate it by saying it wasn't really American and he had to say the original GT40 wasn't really American but then he blows his credibility when he does the "I've always wanted to do this" and blasts off the lights in true Woodward Avenue style.

I think in reality poor old Jezzer likes Yank motors, he loves the American dream, the cruising, the muscle cars, he even advocated the Ford Mustang as one of the most significant cars of all time. He acknowledged he was impressed that the C4 Corvette still started after he nuked it. But he can't say that as he thinks it will adversely affects his credibility. Hmm, what credibilty would that be, then?
