I ordered a pipe from Automec (Tel 01280 822818) - Its comes with the correct ends on in a striaght form 48 to 49 inches long (approx 1232mm long).

Did the new pipe have the correct (larger size) union on the master cylinder end? I have a new cylinder with the wrong size union for the output pipe as its the standard size one as per brake pipes, etc. and a new pipe could be an alternative to getting the correct cylinder (assuming I need to replace it as seals were replaced instead when it wouldn't fit). Interesting to know for future ref also an indication of the price.

Has anyone ever fitted a flexible rubber pipe at the slave cylinder end of things ? it always seems strange to me that there is not one already... or is mine the only one ?

K wink

For info, I've successfully used 3/16" pipe for the clutch rather than the 1/4" stuff fitted as standard. I replaced the master cylinder with a new one for a Landrover Series 2 and this had different fittings to the original so I had to replace the pipe.I've not had any issues with it but will at some point make a full length braided hose to eliminate the risk of metal fatigue from flexing.

I'm pretty sure the V8S has 5/8" pipe but might be wrong

5/8" - that could contribute to why a V8 is allegedly 50kg heavier than a V6 smile 5/8" is about 15mm - the same as normal water pipes in houses.

Just received the pipe from Automec very efficient service and cost only £14.89 which I thought was pretty good as I had budgetted £30.

It's now fitted dead easy job.
