I've been looking out for prices on 993tt 's both privately and main dealer. The price gap between the two isn't small. A similar model will generally be 40k and 50k respectively. I know the major benefit is 12 months warranty but what do you think about taking a chance nothing will go wrong? I've heard it's possible to get a main dealer to check out a car for a fee. An alternative in-between might be a specialist dealer...
Any thoughts? Recommended dealers / specialists for sales and servicing in the south east (chelmsford) would be very helpful. Any good / bad experiences would be a helpful guide too.
Also does anyone know any good online sites to surf at work? Dealers with interesting stock? (993tt or RS models).
Thanks guys.

Roadrunner,
Assume you've tried Porsche's online search engine ?
Basically choose what shape you're after (eg 993,996, etc) then it goes off and wades through main dealer stock.
Otherwise guess you could type what you want into Google.co.uk, do a UK search and see what it comes back with.
Whilst buying Evo in WH Smith yesterday noticed a Porsche enthusiast type mag (can't remember name, sorry), and they had a couple of full page ads from specialists. You might want to give them a bell and see what they find for you.
All the best,
Greg

The magazine is "911 and Porsche World".
Join the PCGB if you haven't already. The "Porsche Post" mag is FILLED with ads from main dealers and specialists and private sellers.
Given Porsche Labour and Parts are damn expensive I personally would get a warranty. Even you buy privately you *may* be able to take out a Porsche waranty. If the original Porsche warranty or an extension is still running you can extend it ("Warranty Link") by contacting a mail dealer.
I think for a Boxster S its about 6-700 quid a year. (ouch!). I also vaguely remember something about the comprehensiveness of the warranty decreasing with the car's age - check it out with a dealer.
I'm afraid I don't know much about 3rd party warranties.

A good read, lots of ads.
There aren't many dealers who specialise in 993 turbos and RSs, as they are quite rare cars. However, Autofarm may be worth a google search, and Northway tend to have a turbo 4 for sale most of the time.

If you go for LHD you can try one of the German, Dutch or Belgium dealers. I heard that the warranty would be transferrable to the U.K. (i.e. international warranty but not sure). Try Porsche website and also www.autoscout24.com, you can select english language and will give links to dealers etc.
Also, www.topmarques.com and autotrader.com always have a listing of cars.

I have just sold my NSX and am about to buy my first Porsche. Does anyone have any information regarding the local Porsche independent "IntaPorsche" of Sayers Common, W Sx. I know he does a lot of business importing cars from Germany as well as sourcing British cars. He is right on my doorstep and has been around 15+ years but I know nothing about him. Any feedback would be vey helpful. If there is an issue piblishing this info on this list, please email me off list.
I want to buy a RHD 993 with around 50k miles for around £28k - 29k.

Bosshog wants a tad more than your budget, but if he doesn't he can give me a call and I'll remortagage the flat until the Abbey National own every last fixture and fitting!

PS Splodger - what was the NSX like? I am planning on a 911 (either 964RS/965 Turbo 2 or 993 C2) but have always had a fascination for the NSX, and have seen them in the low twenties. Reliability? Fun? Expensive to maintain?

domster - sorry about butting in here: you've seen an NSX for low £20k? They always seem to pop up MUCH more expensive when I come across them. Was it an import? These always look expensive for the performance on hand, ie: slower than a boxter or 'hot' hatches, around 6.5sec 0-60. I guess they're sold on the strength of that engine note and looks instead.
Road, you can get a nsx from a dealer for low 20's (prob looking at a J/K reg - see John Cooper Honda down on the South coast near Brighton). Performance is usually quoted at around 5.7 seconds 0-60 (manual - fmatic is slower) but the latest 3.2 engined cars are quoted at sub 5 seconds. These are a lot more expensive as they are 1997(?) on.
Certainly feels fast - test drove one back in the autumn, it made 120 in a flash and the engine note is pure f1. If only it looked nicer

I saw a private example on autotrader about two weeks ago for 19k - it was LHD but a later model year, which is a good thing. Even the NSX had a number of model improvements since birth, so would rather LHD and new rather than RHD and old.
Mid twenties gets you a choice - devonshire motor company (google it) has a RHD one for 23k in at the moment I think.
Performance for all manuals is sub six seconds 0-60 (only the shitty f-matic was 6.5 secs), top whack 155. Handling and engine note do seem to be the real attractions though, plus ease of use and build quality. Gets slagged off for jappo interior though.
Never driven one - would be interesting.

The NSX is a very under rated car. Evo tested it and quote 4.9 for 0-60. Power to weight is only 3 BHP/ton down on the 993 Carrera 2. The handling is superb. Build quality is excellent as is reliability. And that noise from the engine behind your left ear when the VTEC kicks in at 5600 and goes all the way to the 8500 redline is simply gorgeous. Having got used to driving the car I thought it could easily handle more bhp.
I had my first ever test drive of a 993 Carrera 2 the other week and first impressions (performance/handling) were that there were strong similarities between the two. The 993 didn't feel faster but a glance down at the speedo on the country roads showed we were going 15 mph faster than I expected. It was also much easier to drift the rear end of the 993 through corners - not something one often attempts with an NSX. The 993 felt very well planted on the road but no more so than an NSX. However, I do feel that the 993 oozed more character than the NSX, can't put my finger on it, but I think you know what I mean. As I said this was my first drive in a 993.
But the NSX is sold and I need to replace it. SO, back to my original question - can anyone give me some feedback on IntaPorsh (their spelling) of Sayers Common, W Sx? Also, can anyone recommend an good independent Porsche garage in the Brighton area?

try paragon (somewhere in the sussex area) might also be worth you picking up a copy of 911&Porsche world as this has ads for all of the specialists in it.
You will enjoy the porker, i did take a test drive in an NSX a while back and as nice as it was, the driving experience seemed to sullied by a lack of real grunt and an interior that felt as if you were sitting in an exec rather than a sports car.
