Just updated my profile with the running costs I've experienced to date on the E60 M5...

Hopefully it may help some prospective M owners in considering whether or not to take the plunge...

Will even try to price in some depreciation which is just my opinion based on what I see on Autotrader and Pistonheads sales... scratchchin

Maybe some fellow owners have some comparisons on their costs to date...

Had mine 3 months to date and priced in the plug change and rear tyres when I bought it so no great surprises so far...have been fussy about what seemed like a clutch issue so the dealer has agreed to replace it under warranty...

As for the car itself....wow is all I can say really woohoo get's better with every drive...

55 actually!!! now now.....

Dealer cited that if it was a manual then I would have been stuffed but due to it being controlled by software/electronics then they agree it should be warranty...parts haven't arrived yet from Germany so hoping it's sorted in next week or so...

Can't say it's that noticeable an issue at the moment though and I cover about 60 mile a day..

Great car, but it is very expensive to run. I love it. Mine has cost me about £1100 a month since I bought it, I reckon.

Is that including depreciation? Or is it just fuel and servicing?

Good God!! Do you run it on pure Smirnoff or are you only 18 & paying £8K pa insurance!!? That's frightening.
That must include depreciation, shirley?

Hi I just bought an M5 myself

Could you tell me about more about the clutch please?
Mine seems to be slightly jerky/uneven when trying to accelerate gently from standstill. I am wondering if it's just the way the box works or if it's a sign of a worn clutch?

Piston (&) Broke - & stupid!! £1100 a month is ridiculous for a piece of iron & steel. You may wish (but undoubtedly don't want to - until it perhaps happens to you this year) well wishes to the 2 (YES - TWO MILLION PLUS) million families in England who would happily use £1100 just for this years heating oil.

Bear in mind that this Government's unemployment figure are c**p. They don't include the likes of me (ex-forces) who do not, & cannot claim a penny from the State because we get a minimal "pension". The true unemployed figure, despite "massaging" by Brown, is nearer 5 (Five) MILLION. Go think about it...
You may wish this was a socialist country... but it isn't... yet

Mike won't like to hear that I'm seriously thinking of buying another car then (and keeping the M5). laugh

Mike, why complain to me? I pay massive amounts of tax. The government chooses to waste that money.

The slightly jerky aspect could be down to getting used to it....I find it best in setting 5 for the gearchange all the time and in manual mode of course...

The problem I had was a clutch judder type feel when setting off, so not really jerky but sort of 'juddering' when setting off in 1st or 2nd but after that it would be fine.

Basically if you drive it round for quite a bit till it's fully warm and you find the clutch progressively getting worse each time you set off then this is likely to be the symptoms I experienced until it was replaced...

Hope this helps...

Thanks, the judder is actually a more accurate description of what I was trying to convey. Seems like this is the case with mine. I am due a long drive this weekend, will pay a closer attention then. thanks

If it is the judder, then assuming the car is under warranty, get yourself off to the dealer...

Though 1st dealer I went to was less than sympathetic, and stated I may end up paying for a new clutch and flywheel as wear and tear, 2nd dealer which I tend to use more and is generally better all round, was extremely good and fought my corner and I ended up with the clutch and flywheel replaced under warranty....
