being a dry sump engine, the LS7 could be mounted lower in the chassis. The question now,
is a LS7 actually installed lower in the chassis than e.g. a LS3 and for those who have done
a conversion, is there a noticeable difference considering the lower mounting (if there is any)
thanks

There's very little difference in height between ls7/ls3/ls2 sumps maybe 1" at most compared to the vette big wing items. These in turn are flatter then the camaro and truck items. They all have to allow some room for the whirly bits smile

Boy have I been down this road. I have a late and early Corvette pan (not dry sump LS7 pan) neither will work on an Ultima to wide. I have had a Camaro pan and a GTO pan I forget which one is rear sumped but its the one to use for a LS wet sump pan in a Ultima. I ran that combo for 8 months no problems. Now to back up what Clive said I have now gone to a ARE dry sump pan with an Avaid suction only pump. The motor could be lowerd in the car about an inch to an inch and one half with this combo. Lee

Camaro pan is rear sumped in the conventional way whereas a GTO sump is front sumped being the same as a UK monaro. Ls2 sump is the most suitable wet sump or better still a mk1 vette sump with the wings shortened. This sump has decent baffles in it unlike the ls2 item which is a bit pathetic in some ways.
