I've been playing a lot of old games recently thanks to all the emulators you can get (SNES emulator on a Nintendo DS, NES emulator on an iPhone!). What are the best games for the old formats?

NES - never had one but obviously Mario Brothers/ Donkey Kong spring to mind?

SNES - Super Mario World, Prince of Persia (best version of this IMHO), Super Ghouls & Ghosts, Pilot Wings, DK Country, Street Fighter II, Super Mario Kart (how could I forget!), Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past

N64 - Goldeneye, Pilot Wings 64, Blast Corps, Wave Race

PC Engine - R-Type, Bomberman, Gradius, Splatterhouse

Mega Drive - Sonic, Altered Beast, Golden Axe (can't remember any more!)

Playstation - Worms, Tekken, Resident Evil, Destruction Derby, Silent Hill, Coolboarders, Tony Hawk's, Fifa 98, Gran Turismo

Atari Lynx - California Games, Rampart

Atari Jaguar - Tempest 2000

Gameboy - Tetris, Tennis

Game Gear - Puyo Puyo 2

Saturn - Sega Rally Championship

Dreamcast - Crazy Taxi

3DO - Need For Speed, Return Fire, Road Rash 3D, Wing Commander

You missed Super Mario Kart for the SNES.

And I'm probably the only person who owned one, but:
Jaguar - Tempest 2000 (one of my all-time favourite games, but that's probably another thread)

+1 for Goldeneye on the N64. I lost literally months of my life to that at Uni.

Also need to add all of the Bomberman series for the various Nintendo consoles.

Never played the Jaguar, but I was tempted to pick one up on Ebay as newish ones are quite cheap. There was only about 20 games IIRC?

Updated first post to include Playstation!

Crackdown. I 'think' I had it on the Megadrive, I now have it on the Wii (as a download) as it's still bloody brilliant.

The Neo Geo was pretty good, it was basically a games console which played arcade machine games so the quailty of graphics were way ahead of the SNES/Megadrive.

Back in the day they were very expensive though.

Yeah I remember those, they actually made arcade machines using Neo-Geo hardware.

The games were £100+ as well.

Plenty around on Ebay and they are just as expensive as they used to be smile

I will have to get my 3D0 out of the cupboard for some NFS. It's the original 3D0 with the sort of leatherette padding on the case...! hehe

Ah I remember borrowing my mates 3DO at Uni, and NFS and Return Fire were the games of choice. Trying to get the top speed in the Diablo... cloud9

I also quite enjoyed Wing Commander, complete with FMV cut-scenes featuring Mark Hamill!
