Hi Matt,

First off, you have some great shots on there!

On to the site now:
  • The size of the site looks tiny on my 1920x1200 resolution
  • Not sure if I'm too keen on your logo, looks very pixelated here and drop the drop shadow please wink
  • The site looks quite boring (sorry) which doesn't attract me to view the galleries.

My suggestion would be to:
  • Try and make the homepage look slightly different to the other pages? Do you really need a news section? Why not just add the news to the homepage with links in the news story to the appropriate gallery (this means the site will also look like it's updated constantly)?
  • Increase the width of the site to fit in 1024. I generally build 970px wide as a standard (or make it fluid if you are feeling brave!).
  • Have a photograph of yourself on the about section possibly? It makes the site much more personal.
  • Increase the text size percentage or two? As you have very little content larger text would be acceptable. Add some line-height:160% to your p {} to give the text more spacing.
  • Try playing around with colour schemes, kuler is an excellent little site!
It's nice to see you using div's and css though, makes a change from nasty tables hehe

Give me a shout if you would like a hand with anything, or if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Neil.

All my opinion of-course wink

I have built a website using Shozam and wanted some hosting advice. Who is hosting your site and how much does itcost you?

I don't know if it's just me, but I reckon the thumbnails in your gallery are really, really doing you a disservice.

OK, I know they're thumbnails, so they're never going to look as impressive as the full-sized image, but crucially, especially given the subject matter, they look blurred. My first reaction to that was "young chap giving it a go, but sadly a wee bit crap". However, on opening the actual image, the difference is astounding.

As an example, this...

turns in to this...

The difference between the two strikes me as being way more than what I would expect just from the difference in size.

I TOTALLY agree. I thought your shots were pretty average if not mediocre (sorry!) but that full size one is fantastic.

You are selling yourself short with the site as it is, IMHO.

That's all meant to be positive by the way - I'm saying you're obviously better than your website implies! smile

I like how simple it is and doesnt distract from the images. But it looks a little unrefined and the thumbnails dont draw you in enough to what are some amazing images. good work!

excellent site, strangely enough not worried about the thumbnails, it is common knowledge to most people that thumbnails are not as good as the main pictures

only comment would be to specify the camera kit and lens that is used smile

You're quite right, but usually, they just come out looking small, not blurred! How many times have you seen a picture in small (on the back of your camera, for example) and thought you'd nailed it, only to then see it in full size and realise just how blurred it actually was. I don't think I've ever seen the reverse effect before.
