Just wondering how heavy they really are...and wondering where you can get a car weighed (save the scrap yard wink)

You can get it weighed at a public weighbridge, I have no idea how to find out where they are or if it costs anything.

A scrapyard is exactly where you'd get it weighed, take it to cliftongrade and ask nicely. Should have got mine done when I was in there last week looking for bits for my dolly.

Yes, “my” 1989 S2 has been weighed when it was imported to the Netherlands. It was weighed at the RDW (comparable to UK DVLA I guess). With a full tank and the standard loose items like original tools, jack and roof panels in the car. It has been rounded off at 990 kg.

“my” because I’ve sold it several months ago….. frown

The amount of fuel in the tank must have a significant effect.

Hey, those are the same scales Intrax used to corner weigh my Chimaera! (1043.5 kgs btw, less 4.5 kg after the suspension was replaced with the aluminium/titanium Intrax kit).

1045kg when it was set up by Topcats last year. Included a full tank of motion lotion. I've got the corner weights at home too which I'll post up if anyone is interested.

yes
990 kg is for an S2
and the 1040 kg of Mr Sheen is for a V8s

sounds reasonable that the v8s is heavier!

Hmmm, it should be the other way round (although not by that much) unless there was a huge spec change between the 6 cylinder S models and the V8S - the RV8 is significantly lighter than the iron Ford Cologne V6.

I was under the impression that the Colonge unit and the RV8 unit are of similar weight.

There's a few other bits to consider though - the V8S has more tubes in the chassis - the gearbox is effin heavy too.
100 kilos is quite a difference though.

The RV8 engine is actually lighter than a pinto engine so it should be considerably heavier than a cologne v6.
Cheers.....Tony..

According to my trusty Argos bathroom scales, 1006kg for my V8S with a quarter of a tank of fuel (12 gallons of petrol weighs around 50kg). That's:
O/S/F 257kg
N/S/F 247kg
O/S/R 252kg
N/S/R 250kg

Book figures for the V8S put it just over 1000Kg, the V6 is listed just under. By a curious twist of the sprinting regulations this used to mean that the V6 got pushed up into a higher category since it was just under the minimum weight for the std prod class while the V8 was fractionally over.
