OK, so I am bored at work.. and got to thinking..

How about the definitive "They All Do That Sir" list. Might help some newbies to TVR (like me, well, 6 months) and old timers alike, for all TVR's.

So to start, in my limited experience Chimaera's:
Rev counter light is brighter than the speedo.
Sometimes the fuel pump wines, sometimes not.
Cuts out when idling at hot.
Cuts out after starting when hot.
Creaks when you turn the steering wheel.
Loves oil.
Loves petrol.
Handbrake is a joke.
Smell a bit like wee inside.
Seat belt will lock when trying to put on.

So, over to you, model and quirk please.....

Cheers
Mike

why is the rev counter brighter! i thought it was the bulb!

hot - doesn't want to go anywhere when it's hot!

yep steering creaks and squeaks!

fuel pump has a mind of its own, sometimes it primes on start up sometimes it doesn't.

seat belts, yep, they're crap - i can't move sometimes.

i agree with all of them

Griffith 500:

1)The glove box catch (already busted 2nd one in 2 months of ownership!)

2) Still the glove box, drive over a bump and twang!!! (it's open again!!!)

3) The boot lid does not fit straight, so chaffs the paint ever time you juice up (which is quite regular!!)

4) Ever time you take a TVR virgin out for a spin they never quite see you in the same light again!!!

5) You start making metal location notes in your head every time you spot a Shell Garage.

6) The bonnet catch is so tight you wonder whether it will open next time!!

I don't think that starting a thread like this is really going to help anybody. It will give a false impression that all TVR's are problem cars (mine isnt). It will turn out like the 'Have you bought a lemon' thread. Unless of course you are detailing the solutions to all the problems mentioned, then it might be useful. If people looking to buy a TVR read it they are not going to get a good impression are they?

Ok, so on a more positive note:

They all do that sir:
1)Go like sh*t off a shovel
2)Look fantastic
3)Sound great
4)Have more grip than Elton Johns hairpiece.
5)Make everyone gawp

I am in no way at all doing this to start a "have you bought a lemon" thread I thought that by doing a TADTS list, it would answer a lot of people questions who are thinking of buying one or just bought one. To put their minds at ease, so to speak.

I am not hilighting problems, but little quirks that make ownership more fun over euro boxes.

Just thought it would be:
A) a bit of fun
B) a good source of info

Cheers
Mike

It's obvious we all have a great deal of respect and love for the marque other wise we won't of gone out and bought one or spend all our waking moments reading or contributing to these forrums.

I'm finding this thread very useful and actually thought it was just mine that had wipers that didn't park, won't bother trying to fix that now!!!!

Easily fixed in most cases, there is a connector block at the top of the LH wing that clips to the wiper motor assembly.. pull it apart and give it a clean.. then re-assemble, that often sorts it out.

Cheers
Matt.

Just like to say I'm on my third TVR now, and essentially all I have done is bought more and more expensive things to sit on the driveway whilst I look on in utter amazement at yet another TADTS type fault. You just have to get used to the fact that you are totally addicted to something that will break down. Correction - is broken down. I can't get enough!

Erm... perhaps it's 'cause mine is post-facelift, but I can only agree with:

Sometimes the fuel pump wines, sometimes not.
Loves petrol. It's a 4+ litre engine FFS! what do you expect?
Seat belt will lock when trying to put on. But only only uphill side when parked on a slope.

What doesn't happen?
MikeGF said:
Cuts out when idling at hot. Never been a problem
Cuts out after starting when hot. Not once
Creaks when you turn the steering wheel. More of a "pffft" than a creak, but that's what I'd expect
Loves oil.Touch wood, it's not too thirsty (yet)
Handbrake is a joke.Hard work, yes, but it does the job. You might want to adjust it so that you can get it to the second ratchet click.
Smell a bit like wee inside.[eek] I don't want to know what you've been doing (unless you've been scaring the passengers).

That said, fuel starvation after left-hand bends when near the bottom of the tank seems quite common.

Agree with all that's gone before - love the wee thing!
(think that's actually fibreglass you can smell)

It's the TADTS that makes a TIV what it is.

You forgot one -

Heater is either warm (when set at coldest)
Hot as a Sauna (at mid way)
FFS! (at hot)
