A chap I know has offered me this lot for £400. Is it worth it - I hadn't planned on getting an SLR for a while but it *seemed* like a good buy? Should I bite his hand off or avoid?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

I think it's probably a good price, but I'm not an expert on second hand photography kit prices, so maybe do a bit of your own research. eBay is a pretty good guide for market values (look at completed listings). www.camerapricebuster.co.uk is good for looking what cameras and lenses cost new and Warehouse Express sells most of the stuff on that list and is usually competitive on price.

IMO if the body is in good condtion that is probably worth £350+ on its own

Edit I thought it read 40d.

Still a good buy. Compare it to what you can on ebay and go from there

Thanks for that. So it's not that great a bargain. I love PH - there is always some speedy advice on virtually every topic.

However it does come wtih a lens that slikely better than the kit lens the 400D came with (which is £200 on its own) and a pretty decent flash that was probably £150+ new too.

No, like I said, I think the package probably is good value, but maybe do some of your own research to be sure. smile

These are relics from film days and IMHO no value for a DLSR as you can apply such effects later in PS or similar. I put all mine on eBay years ago!

Doesn't sound like the sale of the century but sounds about right to me. If you have the money spare and wanted to get a DSLR sounds like a good excuse and you get a bit of a jump start with the equipment.

I have a 400d and i love it, i also recently brought a lowepro bag with a laptop compartment and the was £85 on it's own.

Agreed. It's a fair price, and a little cheaper than you could assemble that for yourself. But would you want all of it?!?

Thanks guys. I was only going to buy if it was one of those can't miss deals. Don't think I'll bother then.

You could always buy it and sell off the bits you don't want on eBay?
