XBox 360 HD

Morning people

Can some one please tell me why my Xbox only seems to default to 720 definition .
It is connected to my 42" Viera which is 1080 through a HDMI cable but i cant seem to find out how to make it display in 1080 .

Have you tried the little switch on the cable itself?

There is no switch on the HDMI cable. You should be able to set the xbox to 1080 in the xbox settings.

I will have a look tonight Mark but it should be just a case of hit the middle button, go to settings and go to visual. I will check tonight though.

Don't get your hopes up. Although the output might be 1080p, the actual resolution of the game isn't and the image is simply upscaled. I'll be very surprised if you can see any difference between 720p and 1080p anyway (I can't sitting 6' away from my 37" Panasonic LCD).

The 360 only does 1080i not 1080p, and you would be hard pushed to notice the difference between 720 and 1080 anyway. Personally I leave it on 720 so my xbox isnt busting a gut trying to show 1080 and hopefully doesnt overheat and die.

Nope, the earlier ones only came with component HD cables, no HDMI port. The new ones can handle 1080p with the HDMI cable. - http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/index.cfm?revie...

It allows you to select it - if it is actually "1080P" by the time it has gone through, who knows.

Pretty sure, unless Microsoft are lying, which I am sure there must be some kind of law against ?

Most websites seem out of date on what the component can do, but the US Xbox site is up to date...

I haven't got an X360 but I remember reading about a firmware update over a year ago now I would think which allowed 1080p output.

However I have also read that there are (or weren't when I read it) many TV's which accept 1080p over component, maybe that's changed?

Okay after some research through various websites, it turns out that some TV's (even if they can accept 1080p through HDMI) won't accept component HD - although some will!

Same story as the PS3: very few. I think maybe Vitua Fighter V, and maybe one or two others?
