Far CRy 2 - How to save game?!

For some reason I don't be able to save my game at safe houses when i gain them? Any ideas on why this might be?

Not sure, are you using the bed?

Walk to the bed; press 'use'. This brings up the watch (so you can fast forward time.) Then exit the watch screen (you may need to set the alarm first?) and I believe it will give you the option of saving, or continuing without saving.
