Reaching a stage of starting to worry that given the current economic climate that when i finish uni in May of this year the chances of gettign a job will be slim to none! Anyway currently in fourth year at uni studying BSC HONS Building Surveying. Completed a 7 month work placement within the local authority (getting any work experience was virtually impossible). Worked within the Building Standards Department vetting building warrant applications and completing regular site visits for drain testing final inspections, completion inspections etc. Do not want to work in Local Authority hours were good but not really a great chance of career progression. Without going on to much and writing about everything ive done in my life for the past 21 years wondering if anyone on here within the industry could offer any advice on where to apply to.

Thanks in advance,

Malcolm

Have you just gone through the many construction grad jobs publications and contacted all the usual suspects?

I reckon you might be late to the party however.

Believe in some aspects i could be Late to the party. The many you talk of seem to be virtually non existent this year. Despite being assured by course leaders that the market for us is bouyant and there are plenty of jobs any firms contacted fail to support this. I know of one senior partner who has had to let over 25% of workforce go. These positions included previous graduate building surveyors.
