Hi all, I've been considering getting my wheels refurbished for some time (standard Griff Estorils, 15" & 16") and have been quoted £201.25 all-in including removing & refitting/balancing tyres. This is for a full chemical strip, shot blast, repair scuffs as necessary and powder coat in standard silver with a clear coat finish.

What is the general feeling on how fair this price is? It includes a 25% January sale discount, which makes it slightly cheaper than PXWheels, who quote £240 but I'd have to get the tyres done elsewhere on top. It's with www.lap-tab.co.uk in Birmingham and will be all done in a day if it makes a difference?

Price sounds OK, the only thing that would potentially concern me is the one day turnaround. I don't know what's involved with regards to the spraying of paint and laquer but I'd have thought it would need more than one day to cure and be a good job?

ETA Just had a look at their site and they look and sound very competent.

Ounds very reasonable. Usually pirces start at around £50 per wheel, just for a standard silver finish.

I paid £55 each for my BMW wheels at Lepsons in Kent last year so seems OK but they wanted them on Monday for collection of Friday.
I had left the tyres on so it included all the tyre bits as well.

I agree that a one day turn round seems a bit quick - I assume mine were 'baked' but that may not been the case with your quote.

Lepsons were doing around 500 wheels a week!!!

one day turn around can be done and the finish is just as good and the price is good too, cheapest in my area is £250 for full set going up to £500 (dont know how they figure??)

Just because they can do it in a day does not mean that you have to have it done in a day. I'm sure they would be happy to keep the car overnight and allow more time for the job.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the January sale rate continues for some time.

Lepsons in Swindon took two full days to do mine and yes they are baked. They have a production line type affair the wheels run around.

I think I paid £265 for mine so it sounds like a good deal.

Popped in to see www.lab-tap.co.uk in Birmingham this morning to have a nose and tell them I'd been quoted £170 elsewhere (as recommended further up) and they dropped to £190 all in with chrome tyre valves and some wheel cleaner. After a little sweet talking and making my feelings on the valves clear (not for me thanks) we negotiated to £150 all in! Sign of the times I guess, £150 better than £0... They've got a vast range of finishes to choose from and the customer wheels that were ready for collection looked good to me. Think I'll drop the rims in next week. Just need to choose a silver now - I never knew there were so many types available eek

On the finishes front, apparently as soon as the wheels have cooled from being baked they are cured and ready to have tyres fitted. Because I'm a fussy sort I might ask to inspect the rims before they mount the tyres to see that I'm happy with the finish on the bits of rims I won't normally be seeing.

I've used these guys in Birmingham before had no problems with them and there prices are competitive, i took the car in the morning and the car was done same day by close of business! Oh i had anthracite on my alloys, very nice colour.

BTW that price is excellent! I'll have to paste this and show in email to them if i ever need another refurb!
