Can anyone let me know of an insurance company in the UK that will let me take my car over to Europe for a 2 year period.
I have some quotes from Belgium companies and they are taking the pistonheads with their quotes.

As an alternative is their anyone in Europe who will offer Europe wide insurance at a reasonable rate.

Thanks

I have investigated this (when I moved here - Hungary) and it seems to keep a UK registered car it needs to be insured in the UK. This means you need to tax and MOT it as well. I had a Range Rover here for 18 months, I just returned to the UK when the tax and MOT was due and renewed them. Alternatively a local garage can carry out the local equivalent of an MOT and this can be used to get the tax by post. Then all you need is an insurance policy with 12 month 'green card' cover. European Union rules may be different, I believe any country in the EU (excluding UK, of course!) issues insurance which is valid for all countries in the EU. The key is where is the car registered.

They may have cheaper cars and fuel, but they make up for it in insurance premiums - it is sky high - they're not taking the piss either.

A year's motoring in and around Brussels (20,000 miles in a Golf GTi, at 30mpg) will cost abut £2k for the insurance, plus petrol at £2k or so, plus £15k for the car. Total of about £19 for the first year.

The same year in the UK would be: £500 insurance, £2400 for petrol and £17k for the car. Total of £20k.

Still think you want to live in Belgium?
