I won't go into the story of how this came about but I am in the situation where my new project car is going to be a car converted into a pickup.
I am looking for advice on which car to use for the project.
The choices I'm looking at so far are:
My Mondeo ST200
Mk4 Astra van
Mk1 Focus estate
Mk4 Golf estate

If anyone has any suggestions they will be gratefully recieved as I'm kind of lacking insperation at the moment.

A mk1 mundano estate seems to have nice lines and FWD

Or a BMW estate

You don't see many car base pick-ups any more do you? they're all 4x4 twin cab things. I shifted this Cortina P100 for a friend of a PH'der last year, I quite liked it:

Mercedes C class.

Something like this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/755684.htm

Convert to pickup, then slap some AMG wheels on it. Lovely.

It's never going to be used for work it'll just be a show car.
I'm mostly doing it to prove to people that I can do it.
I did think about an alfa 156 sportwagon but i'm not sure if it will look right.

Need to sort out the rear angle of that B pillar, reminds me of an old Anglia.

Excuse the very quickly, and very poorly done photochop, but you may be onto something with that Merc:

Starting with a 3-door hatch or coupe would require less fettling below the window line. eg use a 3-series coupe rather than a touring and you don't need to weld up the rear doors.

Larger front doors though so the load bay wouldn't be as long. All E36's (saloon, coupe, cabrio and touring) share the same floor pan and can use the same towbar.

It`s a shame you`re too far away!

I know of a t plate st24 estate going for peanuts!

My old man loves doing car to pickup conversions.
Last one was a mk2 granada 2.3 estate!

What about carlton gsi3000?

Ultimate pickup on a budget!
