Chaps, taking the plunge and getting a used Alpine White M3 in Jan. What are the key things to look for spec wise. I know EDC is a good start but any other nice touches?
Cheers
Guy
Comfort access is a good one and make sure you upgrade to at least Hi-Fi Pro if you like your soundsCheers
Guy
oh and gotta have heated seats !!Regarding driving issues (more than resale value), I would recommend:
EDC
M drive (really nice on open roads but not necessary fortrack)
18 wheels seems to be better for track and ... hand washing (I have the 19 btw)
For comfort:
Partial leather is minimum but also enough (especially in black)
HiFi Pro logic at minimum
Sat nav for the screen (Have the big one but...)
Usefull gadget:
comfort entry
PDC
Warming seats
AVOID
High beam assist (totally useless: too slow and disturbing)
I also have the
Bluetooth connection with Ipod (very good for me)
Brilliant line and dark rear glasses (ok )
Moon roof (give some light inside and more discreet than the carbon roof)
In fact I only miss the moving front lights which could be good if you drive a lot during darkness.
Congrats and tick the good boxes

In this order of priority-
White paint, Steering headlamps, extended leather in grey, EDC, 19", high gloss shadowline (esp on the white), heated seats, usb / ipod, stereo upgrade, keyless go.
Whack a Milltek back-box on and you have a nice spec car
(like mine
)
The extended leather is very nice compared to the plastic of the standard car....

I didn't go for EDC either, do people who have it, use it much?
How many people have gone for the sunroof option?
I have PASM on my 997(came as standard),which is similar to EDC.Apart from when I first got the car to see what it is like in this setting I have never used it since. How many people have gone for the sunroof option?
About EDC, for normal road use I agree that it is maybe not that important.
BUT I see it as a part of the important feature of the E92 M3. I mean that option is not only to be seen as a way to better use the car. (what I do with standard setting almost all the time while alone in M DM, comfort setting on speedway and hard on track, only 5-6 times per year probably) but also as a way to experience the concept of the "new" M3. Just my 2pc
That remember me that the Mdrive is also important as option for the original poster.

The Non PASM 987 was very choppy on bad London streets whilst the PASM was very forgiving. In standard mode it softens the suspension more than a Non PASM car but then does tighten up when you push on.
The sport mode is really for track or very smooth A and M roads at speed as turning that on used to rattle my fillings.
So your 997 is using PASM all the time and if you jumped into a Non PASM one, you would feel the difference immediately.
If I were ever in a position to get a M3, I would definately go for EDC.
If you're having the alpine weiss color (same as i do have), be sure you'll have also the carbon roof, then paint your 19' wheels satin black, it's going to look the business...ask me why i know;)
I personally do not like the ''luxuries'' into sportcars, even if the new M3 is a daily sport driver and not an all round tough guy but anyhow i'll leave the warmed seats, the super performant stereos and the (expensive) gps/tv sets etc etc out of the door. They'll loose their value the moment you switch them on and when selling the car they'll give you crap for them.
If you want to add some ''spirit'' to the M3, go for the Eisenmann ''race sound'' catback, it's a fine piece of mechanical jewerly and it sounds a joy, specially from 3 to 7.000 rpms.

I have EDC and find it useful, comfort for m'way makes a difference and then had the M settings to MDiff and hard suspension with Sprt+ throttle map etc..Mine's on 18s but that's just the way it came, but seems to ride and grip well, bluetooth if you drive and use your phone alot, DCT seems to be liked by those that have it, I have front PDC and I like it, again, being London based it helps when working your way into and out of parking spaces...I would have liked exended leather but wouldn't have paid extra for it, I have steery lights and really noticed it when driving at night on country lanes over the last 2 weeks, but normally wouldn't think twice about it..
I would suggest that wheel size is just whatever you prefer the look of, EDC is good, but you might not see value in it, front PDC is good, dark glass (totally up to you), USB port thingy = yes..
Up the stereo...yes, I have the Logic7 thingy and it's good...
Once you've decided then stick with your decision and they'll be a car around...that's for sure!! Good luck!
