I was lucky enough to get a new lens (sigma 18-200mm)for christmas which is great. Only problem is it did not come (read - I did not get) with a lens protector. I now have one, but this feels a little like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted as my little boy managed to sneeze and cover the lens wth a spray of grems/siliva (which can be seen in reflected light). I have searched the site to no avail, before I trash the lens in an attempt to clean it are there any do's/don'ts (appart from the obvious fit the protecteor before you get into this mess)...

Modern lenses are multi coated and extremely tough, you'd have to be going at it pretty hard to damage it and even then it's not the end of the world.

I personally use my shirt/t-shirt to clean my lenses, if necessary with a little huff of breath onto the front element first.

Otherwise go to jessops and get a lens pen or cleaning cloth.

If you saw the state of my shirts (let alone the style) I reckon a visit to jessops is in order. Thanks

I just use the little scrap of material that comes with sunglasses/reading glasses...works perfectly fine for me!
