Hi,im building up a gtr,with chevvy/porche power.
The starter I have looks to be a Brise unit ,it has the number rac 70142 on it.
Ive started the engine approx 10 times with this unit, but on the last attempt was met with awful grinding noises.the mounting bolts were very tight so no movement there,Ive removed the starter and the pinion has bad wear on the first 8 mm.it looks as if the pinion is too small diameter and the wrong dp(diamedral pitch) the tooth form looks incorrect as well.
The pinion on the unit is a ten tooth 28mm diameter .the ring gear is 132 tooth, its mounted in the standard porche position, but there is no support on the mainshaft to locate in the bush located in the bellhousing,im wondering if the starter shaft is bending away from the flywheel ring gear or whether in fact the pinion is totally wrong,i think a30mm pinion could be used? anyone ANY IDEAS!
regards

I'm not saying this is your problem, but I had the same noise 900 miles from home on it's shake down trip to Italy. It turned out to be the wrong starter/adaptor plate for my box and meant I was only getting a couple of mm engagement on full throw. The factory will be able to tell you if this is the issue.
