Passat not starting

Just tried to start the Passat up this morning.

Car won't turn over at all, just produces a ticking noise & the lights on the dash flash.

EPC light then stays on, which I guess could be for a multitude of reasons.

Has anyone experienced the same problem at all?

Was indeed the battery, just got to get the damn thing out now !
