my rear view mirror has fallen off my S3C - what's the best method of fixing since this is not the first time

You can buy proper sticky pads for the mirror to windscreen, they are made so they still stick after exposure to uv rays and cost less than 50p I think I saw some at Halfrauds and your local auto windscreen place should also have them.

You need to get some heat into the glass, the sticky pad and the mirror plastic bit itself, if you stick it all together cold (I don't believe Sweden is too hot this time of year eek) it will just fall off again.
Obviously make sure the glass and mirror plastic is clean and grease free aswell.

Assuming you have the correct adhesive pad and not just some generic double sided foam, I believe the two sides are different and you need to get them the right way round.
