Golf Mk3 Auto wet weather phobia..
Discussion
It's probably a familiar story but involves eBay, a bottle of wine, a touch of boredom and a VW Golf. Put the ingredients together and you can guess the rest - wake up on a Sunday morning with a slight headache and the proud but accidental new owner of a Mk3 Auto for the price of a night out for two in London. Turns out to be a very neat car with full history, 80K miles and recent cam belt service.
It runs like a train and starts first time even on the coldest of mornings - but add in some damp and it turns into a monster - often taking several minutes to start on a wet morning and recently stranding me at the roadside when the engine died as I drove in a rainstorm. No obvious clues under the bonnet, the HT leads, plugs and distributor cap all look virtually new - suggesting that this was a problem that was being chased before I bought the car.
So any other ideas as to what I'm missing ?
