I have an S3c and it does not have a bonnet scoop, so i think he is probably telling the truth, buy it now you know you want to.
Cheers.....Tony..

No front facing Scoop but side vents normally = S4 or S3C
But then again TVR mixed and matched with whatever was in stock.

Its a late one then I think - they dropped the scoop towards the end of production with some bonnets being flat and some flat with holes down the side edges of the bonnet.

OR are you saying it has a V8S rear facing scoop?

Found this pic on the factory pics thread in General TVR

I think most if not all S3 & S3c had forward vent some had driving lamps some not , i thought for awhile this was a 3 / 3c difference but it was probably a factory option . The S4 had side vents as on the Chim bonnet and the V8 had the rear facing vent .
So the car you looked at has the wrong bonnet , i can't imagine it matters to anybody but the most die hard enthusiast . I once heard that the factory would fit whatever they had in stock when cars came in for repair and many S series would have gone back to the factory in the early years of their life .

Mycroft, sorry mate, that is incorrect. The S3c either had a scoop and lower lights (old run out bonnet from an S3) or on the later ones the same bonnet as the S4c, ie: side vents lke a chim with lower driving/fog lights. Aero, so the car you looked at, has the original bonnet fitted (for its year that is) if the bonnet is flat, ie: no scoop and no bulge (V8 version)

so you live & learn , didn't think any S3s had side vent bonnet , the first one i drove had side vents but assumed it was an S4 . smile

The car in the Blackpool meet picture above is my S3C. It has the later bonnet with the air vents at the side similar to the Chim; it is however different from the V8S which has the bulge at the back (with a rear facing vent at the top of the bonnet almost) and I think slightly to the off side but no doubt the V8S guys will clarify that for you. It is a personal choice but I think the bonnet without the scoop is better looking but maybe that is because that's what I've got smile
Jim
PS The picture was taken at the pub on the day we had the run to support the workers - ie before the factory finally closed.

My old S3 had a V8S style bonnet - think it was actually an S4 bonnet as it didn't have a vent in it, not the best photo of it but there is a pic in my profile. As far as I know it was genuine, I bought it from Adrian Blythe and contacted the previous owner and he ststed it had been on the car from new....apparently.

My old S2 had an S4 bonnet, someone once offered me some dosh to part with the bonnet, but I thought it looked better than the normal one.

Hi Kevin, I agree that TVR seem to have fitted what was available when a car came in for repair. I do not have the full records but it appears that my 1988 S1 had a minor prang within the first 10 years of its life. As far as I can tell (and I have had the chassis back to bare metal) it had a new bonnet, new radiator and lower offside wishbone. The bonnet fitted was of the V8 type.
I was perversely proud of the fact that mine was the only V6 at S Club 2008 with a V8 bonnet! It has led to a little confusion, like being shepherded into the V8 area and having to 'move on' to my rightful place, and the report from another PH user that he had seen the glorious sight of a 'green V8' followed by a red V6 (jimed's)going well on our way back from S Club 2008.
The car in the pic is indeed an early S1, despite what the bonnet would lead you to believe!

Dale, Dave, Chris & Gozzy - we need to make a note of this when marshalling the cars at SCH09!!

Thanks Chris, next year (and I will be there if at all possible) I will know my 'place'! I saw the mention of the V8 bonnet bulge being offset, this picture shows the offset well (and shows that the BMW, slightly smoked, front indicators work well with this car and colour).
