London New Years Eve

So originally we were hoping to be out of London this new years eve, however my other half and I have decided lets stick it out this year and then go away for a long weekend in January, prices are really good at present, £200 3 nights in Rome, which looks good.

Anyway what are peoples thoughts on the London fireworks show and going out in London on New Years Eve.

To be honest not my greatest plan as I work in Piccadly during the week and it is never much fun with so many people about, but we were thinking about going down to southbank and doing the whole fireworks thing and that and wondered what peoples experience's were?

However I dont really want to go out and get heavily smashed as I did this last years and I will be working all Xmas anyway so just looking for a quiet one.


So my question is what are peoples plans and peoples thoughts on a night out in London, and if anyone has any other day to get out of the City I owuld apprecaite it.

It is a short walk from my place. And I avoid it like the plague.

If you have access to somewhere nice with a view of the fireworks it might be a good night, but the restaurants will be on full "Valentine's Day" service at best, and both the South Bank and Trafalgar will be packed full of drunken morons. Horrible.

Yeah I fell your pain, I moved up into muswell Hill so its a lot quiter but working smack in the centre of Piccadily is a nightmare.

Im just not sure whether its going to be worth it on New Years Eve, would be good if theres a good gig on or something. we will see!

We're going on a boat trip down the Thames on NYE, and watching the fireworks from the river. Just hope the boat driver can find a good parking space;)

Last time I did NYE in London we had dinner at a nice hotel, had a few Bellinis in the bar before heading to Green Park for a good view of the fireworks without the crowds.

Green park would indeed be a good bet,

Anywhere around westmister and futher east is (as has always been said) packed with complete drunken morons.

I did a party on a boat on the Thames last year with the other half and a couple of friends. It was very good, but also a very expensive night, must have been £500-600 for the pair of us, if not more.
