I want a monkey!!
Discussion
I have always wanted a monkey.
My girlfriend spent the middle part of her childhood in Nigeria and her family had a medium sized monkey as part of the family.
Allegedly, they trained it to do all sorts of amazing things.
Now, I believe them to be illegal in this country. Is this true?
Also, Mrs MAM says that they really need a full time bloke to look after them and train them etc. On top of serious costs for general monkeying around.
Clearly, having a monkey would be expensive......does anyone have any experience of Monkey ownsership in the UK?
I think this one will stay in the imagination but I can picture me and my monkey; Here we come, walkin' down the street. We get the funniest looks from ev'ry one we meet.

Remember discussing this among mates a few years ago:
Mate 1: Yeah...it'd be really cool. You could train it to do things...
Mate 2: Like makes cups of tea.
Mate 3: Or w
k you off
Me, mates 1 & 2:....
I wondered how long it'd be before Mate 3's suggestion raised its head Mate 1: Yeah...it'd be really cool. You could train it to do things...

PistonHeads: Smut Matters

Not as easy as you think,Firstly you need a DWA = Dangerous wild animal licence, not easy to obtain, your local authority can give you details.
Secondly primates are a bit tricky to maintain in a domestic situation, susceptible to viruses colds and the like.
Thirdly very expensive.
There are other critters that are much easier to keep and are just as cute and without the hassle,Google Sugar gliders, Flying squirrels and the like.
Hope that helps Dean

No, it's not illegal (yet - there is pressure from various organisations to ban the keeping of primates as pets), but Mrs MAM is being very sensible so you'd be well advised to listen to her!My father used to bring back monkeys when he was in the Merchant Navy and my girlfriend (an ex-zoo keeper) has had a lot of experience with them. They need lots of attention and amusement and can become very destructive and anti-social if they don't get it.
They also have some fairly anti-social behaviour at times; apart from the obvious and well known tendency to do embarrasing things when your mother-in-law visits, they will sometimes decide it's fun to fling excrement and my g/f had a pet squirrel monkey who was expert at projecting his uring at anyone he didn't like... he used to be able to hit her then boyfriend at a range of 7 or 8 feet every time he walked into the room.

Think I might just pop over to her folks in Nigeria and play with one instead!
Thanks for the good advice!
